Is the purse really being cut in half next season? If so, why? The first tournament is listed as only having a 100K purse, instead of the standard 200K? if anything, shouldn't it be increased since we have another tier to split it among?

    Here's some possible reasons:

a.) It hit them in the pocket a little harder than expected during the year-end financial review.

b.) The results were heavily skewed to a very small percentage of players. By cutting the payouts you're taking half from everyone. Half of the top 10's cut is a much greater volume than half of the "guys in the middle" 's share.  This would prevent too many players from reaching Elite Tier items too quickly, which might have or already be happening.

c.) Typo.  Someone has a really fat finger and loves to copy and paste.

    d.) Buncha jerks.

    e.) Both A & B.

Just kickin' a can.  No actual facts here.

My money is on E.  E as in, "Ermagerd we came in HOW far under projections?!".

"Ermagerd" ... Ha Ha Ha Ha ... I haven't heard that in a month of Sundays.

    Can I add an F ?

    F) The other option was to begin paying out in Rubles ... but only one guy there understands the conversion rates - and he's not that bright - so they just cut the payouts.

    Add

    G) Bad judgement by New Ideas.

VT and Clashes get some exitement from the big numbers on the prize board - to reduce them without further change will make them less attractive.

    Edit:

    H) An equally important tour for mobile users only...

I like alosso's G & H.  Both make sense to me based on past WGT performance and apparent priorities.

I can't see much if any financial reason on not issuing the 1,600,000 cr / year being saved by cutting the VT purse in half.  What's the impact on expenses?  Worse case is all the credits would have been used to obtain 10 Amazon cards @ 165,000 cr each.  The expense to buy 10 $250 Amazon cards is $2500 to WGT plus shipping.   If they are looking to cut $2500 from expenses they're just getting by on net income which should be millions of dollars.

Next Monday we'll see if there are similar cuts to the Monthly and weekly tournament purses.  If so that might indicate an attempt to temper the further winnings of the "fat wallet" minority.  If the FW crew starts gifting equipment rather than cashing in on gift cards for themselves, it's a bigger threat to WGT's bottom line.

I took a look at the Top 250 list of YTD earnings. Add up all the YTD winnings of the Top 250 and ignore some of those winnings are from trips, etc. the total is 64.7M cr or $647K potential "threat".  Not that all of that $ could happen, but a chunk would be noticeable perhaps.

I found it interesting that 12 of the top 20 earners are not verified.  According to the FAQs, you must be verified to partake of the elite collection. What to do with those hundreds of thousands of credits then?

    plus shipping.

The cards are electronic (emailed to you).

They ALL sell them via gifting, blitzes, skins, or mp. Player A shoots player B (the non-verified) x amount of money thru paypal, or whatever money-transfer option they agree on. Player B then gifts or loses, usually (a minimum) twice what the money would have gotten had it been deposited and credits purchased.

There are TONS of players doing this and it's the simplest thing for WGT to catch, and it's the biggest threat to their income. Catching these black market sellers and buyers would be 100 times easier than catching the first day "hack" shooting a 55 at Kia.

If I owned a business, and was getting robbed by my customers, I'd change the rules, put things into place that stops any "gambling" amongst non-verified players, the gifting would have limits (amounts and time periods), etc. Why WGT even allows, or has, gifting is beyond me. Very, very few people will deposit money (buy credits) and "gift" others. Sure, some do, but they are less than .001 %. The pop-up to gift, the ads to gift, etc simply mean WGT "loses" what might have been some real money deposited into their coffers. Other than to be able to tell (or show) Callaway, or Taylormade or whoever that "hey, look!! your balls equipment are selling pretty good", I think the gifting option hurts WGT's pockets more than they realize.

I'd focus an entire team on just scrutinizing every "non-verified" player's dealings.

And, if anyone believes that some of the "non-verified" players are just kind-hearted people who share their winnings, well, then your just a plain dumb-a**.

Sure, they are many, many (the majority) of players on here who don't have the means to spend money on balls/equipment. If those players live inside (or have the knowledge to "virtually" and temporarily live inside) a country that has free credit offers, they have that option. If not, I'm sure creating 100 friends to invite comes to mind when the balls run low.

Then, there are those that simply decide to not drop any money, spend the time to grab the free credits, and play forever with the best equipment/balls and always have a bank. And WGT makes money (instead of losing) from the free credit offers.
