    mantis0014:
When hitting off shorter tees the yardage can be totally different on some holes. Few holes on St.A is perfect example as it can be 50-60 yrds less than it's shown at the top of screen.

st.a hole 9 from medium tee is 281yds is plays 30yds short can reach green with 3 wood

This is true for all tee colours at STA and other courses before OLY(?)
(at least OAK, BPB, KIA, RSG, probably Whistler and Cabo as well)

There, the difference is given for one set of pins. Scorecard length (=top right before the first shot) is given to one of the pins, and when the other is selected, the distance will be "wrong" except on Par3s where the number changes accordingly.

Usually, it will only matter at drivable greens, like STA#9 and STA#10. There, you may be fooled to hit too long or too short. It's necessary to check the shot length at the blue dot.

From OLY onwards, scorecard length on Par4s and Par5s is not measured to any pin but to somewhere on the green. It's not reliable when you may drive the green but opportunities are scarce. At OLY #2, the shortest scorecard length even doesn't find the green - it's too low.

Don't think that to be entirely true... Merion #5 shows 11 yds more for the back pin. That isn't the case on most courses though

Consider the limitation to older courses above - the quoted part doesn't include Merion, which is younger than OLY.

Futhermore, I've never seen or heard that the scorecard length of Par4/5 holes varies. For MER #5, I have verified 500 yds from the tips - is there any proof for a different number?
