In many posts clearing system and browser caches, Flash Player settings, and game settings are mentioned as things to check if you're having connection, game freezing, or jumpy meter issues.

Here is a list of those things I do and check right before I play WGT and hope the information will help you:

I clean my browser caches, then close my browser.

At the system level - clear all the temporary Internet files your computer is hanging onto and other system caches that contain garbage data. Make sure your system Registry is cleaned up.

I use CCleaner Pro to do system level cache cleaning maintenance, usually several times a day, but I always run CCleaner right before I open my browser to start the WGT game client.

Browser Caches to Clear (Obliterate from the beginning of time)

    Browsing History

    Download History

Cookies, Other Site and Plug-In Data

    Cached Images and Files

    Passwords

    Autofill Form Data

    Hosted App Data

    Content Licenses

Recommended Flash Player & WGT Game Settings/Options

The WGT game client page should be the only tab/web site open in your browser. I leave my anti- malware and anti-virus applications running in the background, but have an absolute minimal number of applications that start and run in the background when I boot my computer.

         Flash Player

With the game client page open,  right click anywhere on the page, click on Global Settings and the Flash Player Settings Manager web page will open in a new tab.

In turn click on each Settings Manager panel:

    Global Privacy Settings panel

    Always deny

    Global Storage Settings panel

Move the slider all the way to the left so the chosen value is None.

    Check -  Never Ask Again.

Un-check – Allow 3rd party content to store data on your computer.

Check  - Store common flash components to reduce download times.

    Global Security Settings panel

    Choose - Always Deny

No web sites should be listed.

    Website Privacy Settings panel

Delete all listed web sites except media5.wgt.com. Left click on media5.wgt.com to highlight it.

Choose – Always Deny and make sure media5.wgt.com then has a red dot with a (Deny) minus sign in it.

    Protected Content Playback Settings panel

    Click on Reset License Files

    Peer-Assisted Networking panel

Check – Disable P2P Uplink For All

Note media 5.wgt.com will then have a red dot with a (Deny) minus sign in it and no other web sites should be listed.

          Recommended WGT Game Settings/Options

On the first Game Client page click on Menu. Scroll down and click on Game Settings.

If you have already started a game – click on Menu, scroll down to Options to choose game settings.

          Display

Display Hole In One Challenges – NO

    Ball Speed Boost – None

Use Ball Speed Boost On Green – NO

    Flash Quality – HIGH

Show WGT Lessons Button – NO

    Transparent Avatar – ON

Virtual Caddy – Do Not Show Caddy

Distance Markers – Off (moving the aiming square to check distance to points on the hole is more accurate).

    Aerial multi-Cam - ON

    Aim Arc – ON

    Camera Pans – OFF

    Reflections – OFF

    Putting Grid – OFF

    Hole Info Display – OFF

    Ball Trails (Replay) - ON

    Flag Animation - OFF

End Of Game Messages - Off

Putter Pal Display – On if you have it. Off if you don’t have it. (I use VGG Caddy instead)

Shot Pal Display - On if you have it. Off if you don’t have it. (I use VGG Caddy instead)

    Show Available Surveys – NO

    Show Credit Offers – NO

PIP Animation During Putt – OFF

Show Swing Meter Boost - OFF

          Audio

I only lower the Music volume - almost all the way to the left.

Sometimes I lower the volume of the Ambient & Environmental sounds.

          Advanced

    All - OFF

Wow!  The game is totally unplayable on my computer if this is set to less than 100 KB (the value WGT recommends).  My system - and many others -  work best with this setting at 1 MB

And remember to completely power down your machine at least once a day.

Excuse me.  While I am not a high end user here, this process seems rather aggressive unless you have a dedicated machine for WGT.  Many don't, and like me, many don't have the $$ to.

The main issues reside in the system set up in the first place, i.e. the way Flash is used.  You can't expect everyone to clean their entire computer system each day just to play a few rounds of casual golf on here.  Most don't care enough about it to play but a few times a day at best.  Why fart around with all this garbage?

Seems to me what WGT has done is create a hierarchy to try to control things they don't even know how to fix.  And to make US do the work to clean up their mess is ludicrous.  Sorry, don't buy it, and am near done buying anything else.

What are your PC specs ApexPC?

I started playing this game in 2009 on a Windows XP Pentium 4 2.2Ghz with 2G Ram and internal video card and I had to do all you say plus run GameBooster.

I upgraded to a Win7 64bit Core i5 with 4G RAM and internal video card.  Used to use set affinity to separate processes, run the game on 1 core and Skype, Excel, Notebook, Paint Shop Pro on the other 3 cores.   90+processes total. Good meter on single play but the occasional meter freeze in multi-player.

That laptop crapped out so in Dec 2014 I got this laptop with Win8 64bit Core i7 16G Ram with an Nvidia GeForce video card and once I settled on Chrome browser (yes w/ Pepperflash) my meter is virtually perfect with a rare stutter in multi-player.  I still run all those programs listed above during my games.  CPU is running at less than 10%.  And I don't bother with any of your list, clear my cache occasionally (maybe once a week) and restart the Chrome browser between games.

According to the Passmark CPU Benchmark site my processor is 41x faster than the Pentium 2 2ghz minimum WGT requirement.

If my meter is good without going thru all the steps, I say why bother?   If my CPU is running at 8% now and all that list does is take me to 6% its not worth it to me.  But if you have an older, less powerful CPU, then your list can help I suppose.

Your system needs to be part of the equation to decide how much you need to optimize is all I'm sayin'.  With my system I don't need to do any of the above for a smooth meter.

Same laptop since 2009 with those specs and never had to do anything except be vigilant with the browser of choice and Flash.  :-)

Your CPU was released by Intel in 1Q 2008 and is roughly 10X faster than WGT's Pentium4 minimum requirement.  It's dual core 64-bit and with the separate graphics card it was a very nice system at the time.  Its benchmark performance is not too far behind my 1st upgrade to an i5 CPU.  I'm not surprised you get a smooth meter with all the optimizations you list.  You could probably multi-task a bit, say run Skype or read mail, with that system rather than dedicate it to running the game.  But if it works, don't break it.

Seen the OP post a few times regarding optimum settings etc. First I've seen it done with such detail. Sure some will find it very helpful.

    Well done you.

It would also help if when folk are having issues to - rather than just vent - actually post what OS they use, browser, etc etc. Then others can perhaps offer a more 'user specific' solution.

Best advice for optimizing your WGT experience - roll one and light it.
