    Hi All,

I read with interest the up and coming press release from WGT. I hoped it would be Augusta - alas it wasnt lol.

It is sad to see so much criticism on the site re this issue, and others. Yes - there are problems that need resolving, that's for sure, but in business nothings perfect - and it isnt perfect in the virtual world either.

I think if this is what WGT feel they needed to do to prolong the business and maybe put it onto a more stable financial footing then so be it. I dont see it affecting the game play much, but I guess we'll still get a new course every year - and that cant be a bad thing.

OK - we might end up with some target golf, or a driving range - well, we've already had a driving range for years anyway- so that's no big deal. ( Practice mode  - get on the first tee take your mulligans - and keep on hitting them. I do it all the time)

I think it would be very very sad if WGT went under - in business for 10 years, I've been here for 8 of them this year, and really enjoyed the online golfing experience. Unfortunately I cant play the real thing anymore (back injury),  so this for me is the next best thing.

But hey - lets get real here - this is a game !!  Its not life and death - its a game. A damn brilliant game too. It costs as much as you want it too - its up to the individual, but as far as gaming / hobbies / vices go -  its not expensive by any means.

PLEASE - don't everybody jump down my throat at once, just my opinion.  I'm just saying that's all.

    Happy hitting in 2016.

    Cheers

    Doug

The one thing i found, umm, interesting from the presser and also on TopGolf's website, is how this buyout will help grow TopGolf.

Not one word how it will help THIS game grow.

14 million members here at WGT. I would think SOMEBODY from TopGolf would be, or damn well should be, on this site telling us what they plan to do here.

Until then, I'm not buying another thing.

As a mobile user myself I ought to be excited. I was just expecting more from The biggest announcement ever!!!

I think there is a misconception that you can smear us mobile users with cheap gimmicks like dart golf. This is like giving us another ctth course, only worse.

Ps. I also see that Callaway golf has a 20% stake in Topgolf mmmm.

Careful Doug, you're in danger of talking sense... Unfortunately, there are the usual glass half empty vocal minority who, instead of remembering and applauding the many hours of fun they have had with this game, use every opportunity to whinge. But that's the same in every walk of life.

    Happy hitting in 2016.

And to you - and the rest of us that get such a lot from this game.

So what you are saying is that you have sold the dedicated members down the river, so in 1year to 18 months WGT wont be any more, because Top Golf wont want you to stay home and play they will want you to use their ranges and spend even more money, whilest WGT slowly fades away.

Theres a lot of members of WGT that can not hold an actual golf club and swing it, they look to WGT for their game of golf, also Android and ipad are no good to some members as they can not use a touch screen.

So what do we do now.

    Regards Whisky1tot

Got to be a realist though.

Yeah WGT has been a super game on the whole, and always said so.  Some nice stuff expressed here, but that's in a forum thread that also called it a merger by the end just taken over.

I wish the game all the best but someone wondering how much of their own money to drop on this place is a fair question, IMO. I can't believe it would have passed the new owners by that would be the case after the joint effectively their announcement - heavily weighted to what TG have so far cared about.

EDIT: Meant to add it's not rocket science that this place has been desperate for investment for a while, and faffing around with daftness like the clash was not going anywhere fast.  I am sure many here would love to bang the drum loud, but you need a stick to do that.

    Aye Jim :)

But nowt wrong with a touch of blind optimism lol..

Mergers are nearly always takeovers. TopGolf now have the opportunity to start a charm offensive to a database of 14M - that's what they've bought. But, will they be as focused in investing in this game? Unlikely - mainly because they have such major expansion plans with their 'social driving ranges'. On the flip side, WGT should be making the sort of money that ensures enough resources are allocated to keep it going - but I do expect to see virtual target type driving range games appearing.

Main thing for me is that desktop is maintained - so I can still enjoy many hours of drunken alt shot with the guys from our CC lol.

Sincerely wish the game all the best here, and I do hope it gets the financial lifeblood it craves.  Most mergers are usually takeovers for sure.  This one the only place merger was even mentioned was this unofficial forum thread.  The new owners were more than happy to simply say we acquired, and so no mistaking who is calling the shots now.

Anyway they all get to plead the 5th, so to speak, for a while.......I hope the new shot callers have good plans for this too, and just been cautious so far this side - glass half full.  I sure as heck have no interest in what TG have so far said they will be adding to this LOL

They have bought WGT out, they have their own business and will use WGT in any way to get their business growing. It aint their baby, they have just adopted it.

Yes they will not want to lose members here for finance reasons, but they will see the mobile market as the biggy........matchbox size screens shooting at clowns mouths (sounds like a film i once watched errrrrr) and getting sirens to sound etc etc etc.

P.C brigade...............no real money in that.

Realistically are they going to spend any Topgolf funding on this game, or are they going to pump this games profits into Topgolf so folks can sit and watch their hubby wack some balls whilst feeding your 4 year old skinny fries and sipping pepsi, in more luxorious surroundings?
