This post will be about helping you to choose the right ball that SUIT you not finding the best ball in game.

A little about me, I recently reach Legend tier after started to play the game since September, I'm not a regularly players who play everyday anymore but I love to share my knowledge since I spent a lot of time around the forum trying to learn from people who are much better than me.

I believe that there aren't any post or maybe I haven't seen any post around the forum explain about golf balls and mostly I see people talking about clubs.

Yes clubs are very important, what driver to get, what irons should I upgrade, what putter is the best, the max spin wedges or the Cleveland wedges yes they all important, but I finally found the way to improve my game by finding out the right ball that suit me a while ago which helped me get to Legend and this post will tell you how I did it and hopefully it will help you guys on lower tier.

There are 4 stats on a ball

    Spin

    Distance

    Durability

    Meter Speed

I won't talk about Durability since most of the good balls are around 2.5 Durability (durability affect how long your ball last before they worn out, in case you don't know)

People talk about how important it is to have balls with long distance to be able to play in Master tier or Legend tier. Yes I admit distance is important especially in Legend tier where I have to experience them and yes I don't like the longer tee lol. But let me ask you, what is the point if you can drive it long but you can't hit it straight, what is the point having a short second shot but you have to putt it long even though you have the right distance but you ball end up at the far right of the green when the pin is in the middle?

Distance is important but I'm telling you, being able to hitting your ball straight is even more important and the only way to do that in this game is you just have to ding and ding and ding, there isn't any other way. How to ding it more often?

When we play this game, we all have that sort of sense of when is that running thinggy gonna run to the ding and we just have to time it to "ding".  You can say that you will buy the slow meter but it doesn't always work.
I started with the Srixon ball which have 2.5 meter speed, before I switched to the Hex Chromse Callway ball L34+ Slow meter with 3.5 meter speed, but the only thing that work for me is the 3.0 meter speed. I used to thought that slowest meter speed is the best but it doesn't work for me, finding the right meter speed is really important, I end up ding the shot more often which end up more green in regulation more fairway in regulation, I can putt shorter and of course, more birdie and less bogey just because I can ding and I can hit straight.

So Meter Speed is the most important, then Spin and Distance which one is more important?

Between this 2, I believe they are really equal to each other but I choose Spin. But I will tell you the advantage and let you choose by yourself.

Distance: Distance affect mostly your driver, your iron will go longer as well but mostly it's your driver and 3 wood. You will hit longer, your second shot is shorter and you can reach more par 5 in 2.

Spin: I'm a fan of spin so this will be a little bias, but I believe spin is a little better compare to distance. Maybe I hit shorter compare to people who choose distance but having more spin will mean I have more control with my second shot. Let say I have the 5 iron which is 185yds. If I put no spin on it, it can go up to 190yds, if i go a little back spin it will go 185-187, full back spin it will almost dead stop around 180yds. You will have to practice and practice this but having more spin on your ball mean you can play around with back spin more. Even though you don't drive that long, but you have more control over your second shot. The disadvantage is there are some par 4 where you just can't reach them in 2 because they are so long, and people who choose distance can try to have a long birdie putt where you have to try to pitch and chip it in. But I find myself hitting closer to the pin when I have more spin on my ball.

That's basically it, please please please feel free to ask me, if you need help choosing a new iron, or new driver or new putter, or how to pitch chip closer, feel free to ask I'm happy to help.

p/s: Think like Jordan Spieth, he doesn't drive the longest but he control his ball so well, his stroke gain last year was 3rd I believe, people said his putting is good, it is really good but his putt gain is only 6th or 8th something, can't remember but his stroke gain is really high because he can control his ball so good which is why he is really sucessfull

yes good points especially that super slow meter balls are not the best for every one, plus they are very costly. some players will find only one or two dots of spin is good enough for them and they save money.

Doesn't make a difference on the ball, because this game will eventually do something stupid that'll cost you a ball anyways.   I find times where I just play with starter balls, because too many times, let's say..  I'll hit a club to lay up, or even 75% driver just because I was too lazy to change to a 3 wood, but the ball will surprising go much farther and into a hazard (like laying up with a 190 yard club where the hazard is 220 away and adjust the ball spin, but still lose the ball in the hazard).    This is why I refuse to spend a lot of money on this.   I got to level 90 mixing golf balls, and not going to throw good money away because WGT wants to take equipment that I paid fairly for because of what I feel is an unfair practice.

Slow meter are not bad, but people can get balls with less value with better stats go to spin and distance, just need the right meter first

I find the most important thing for me to hit the ding is to try to get all my clubs at the same speed, whether they are a fast meter or a slow meter. The speed should always be nearly the same so there is an ease of timing.

Some past posts on the subject talk about the sum number of the clubs + balls:

My MINIMUM preferred sum number for spin is 6.5

My MINIMUM preferred sum number for meter is  6
