    PINEHURST NO. 2

I have provided the following guidelines for playing Holes 1 -9 at  Pinehurst No. 2. which is a Stoke Play tournament for February 2016. I hope this may help some of the Hacks and Pro to play a better game at Pinehurst. If  some players find this helpful I'll submit guidelines for 10-18 holes.

Check for prevailing Winds and adjust recommendations accordingly.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 1

Tee shot right centre of fairway with ball landing just before trap on right would be the best shot. Other players may choose play just short of the point where the fairway narrows leaving a low iron shot to a crowned green. Remember, that all greens are crowned at Pinehurst which makes for a precision approach shot. On the approach shot, stay a little left of pin....anything to right will roll off green making for a tough chip shot.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 2

Tee shot should be left centre of fairway when pin is located right side of green which will give you a great angle to green. Approach shot should be a little left of pin. A short approach shot will stall on the right side of the green due to a bump which will kill and roll on ball.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 3

A good tee shot to right centre will carry the green on right. If you can't carry bunker on right lay up short of the bunker on the right. Green sits up in the air and slopes left to right. A miss in any direction will leave a difficult par save.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 4

Tee shot should be left centre of fairway with fairway sloping from left to right.

Large green slopes from right to left with approach shot being just a little left of pin. Too much left of pin will give you a very difficult putt for par or birdie.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 5

This is a good birdie/eagle hole if played correctly. I favor a tee shot (476yds) to the right hand side of fairway giving me a 180-185 approach shot. Fairway slopes from right to left. A lay shot on the second shot leaves a demanding approach, with the ball above the player’s feet. A right side approach shot is a good shot. You may find this hole tough to hit and difficult to putt.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 6

I find this par-3 hole as the most difficult to play. A tee shot to the right centre side of green is recommended to avoid a 4 feet bump below the pin. Bunker at the front left is very deep. Putts from the back of this green are extremely fast.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 7

A 3 Wood played to left side of fairway is the recommended shot. A right-to-left tee shot will leave you in the rough with a 30-40 % lie. The green on this hole is narrow and slopes from left of flag into a deep trap. Approach shot should be a little left of flag.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 8

A tee shot to this fairway will find many downhills and uphills. The best stradegy is to hit ball from left to right off of tee. This gives you the advantage of staying on the fairway.

On the approach shot you will be looking at an elevated green which slopes from right to left. Going off the back of green will give you a tough shot for par/birdie.

    Pinehurst No. 2 Hole 9

This Par3 hole requires a very accurate shot to the green. A Tee shot a little left of hole is recommended. Shots over the green will certainly leave you with a bogey.
