Hopefully everyone reads this and it is NOT directed at any member in particular I assure you, but when i get a notification that there's a new tournament and before I enter I do what most players do, they check the LEADER BOARD.
What do they see? Well it's been my experience that when its a 9 hole tourney and see the leader is the one of the highest tiered player posting a score in the 20s, do you actually think that the lower and starter tiers are going to enter if there's no chance to even score in the top 10? Unlikely, one this country club rarely has 10 entries, but secondly and more importantly why bother. They - hacks, amateurs, pro, and even tour pros wont bother cause they know that the higher tiered players cannot stand the fact that another member in a lower tier posted a score close to what his or hers is, so he/she will play it again and again and again until he/she masters it with unbeatable perfect round.
Take the ongoing tournament, I'm a master tier, and know my game and limitations, and I know I wont ever beat a score of 62 on 18 at Oakmont - unless i play it at least 10 times. Even then I would probably break 68, but never 62!!!
SO MY SUGGESTION: Higher tiers post only one score no matter what it is, and allow the confidence of lower tiers to try to knock off the higher tiers, I'm sure by doing such it would improve participation in our tournaments and increase the lower tier's confidence to enter more and more tourneys...I welcome your thoughts on this matter.
So from Master tier and up, have the decency to post just once, golf is an honorable game so lets continue to do so and allow and welcome the lower tiers to knock off our score.
AGAIN, NOT DIRECTED AT ANY MEMBER IN PARTICULAR!!! Just trying to make tournaments a little more enjoyable FOR EVERY MEMBER!!!
