Pebble Beach , 1st hole  30 mile per hour wind

I hit a driver with slight backspin , The ball should have went at least 310 yards , but LOL it went 280 into the rough ,.  I have been doing this long enough to know how far the ball should go , Something is amiss here ..  its like the wind was not there at all yet it says 28-30 mph .............funny stuff .............good luck

I take it that it was a helping wind and you tried to cut the corner.   The last few big helping winds I've had on that hole has ended up short and in the rough.

    Drives me nutz.

The rise in elevation through the dogleg lowers your trajectory.  If you try to cut too much off the dogleg, the rough reaches up and grabs your tee shot...been there a few too many times me ownself.

Wind at your back pushes the ball down and lowers trajectory in the same way that hitting into a headwind lifts the ball and raises trajectory.

Unless there is a severe elevation change, you tend to get a ton of roll on downwind drives because backspin (lift) is minimized.

Combine that with a short deviation and I can see you landing there, sure.  Especially if you mishit, but could still see it happening on a ding and short dev in rare cases.

You got hosed, but within the parameters of established hosery.

Slight backspin you say. Are you sure you didn't clip the tops of the trees? I would of used full backspin to add more height.

your probably right , It may have hit the trees , I tried to cut the dog leg too much and I missed the ding by one bar (Late)   So it was probably my fault , I just thought the 30 mph wind would do more ,  Thanks for all your comments ,   Maybe next time I wont get mad and post a thread LOL         ceverett12              good luck guys..............
