I haven't been playing that long. I'm level 38 now and bought what I thought was best equipment but can not seem to get any back spin regardless of the balls or clubs I use. Any suggestions? When I position the club for back spin I just get less run from the ball but no back spin.Thanks.

Simply put, you don't have the clubs yet that will give you backspin. At your level, I wouldn't worry about it. Soon enough, you'll have too much backspin. Then the foul language begins.

Not sure how to say this, so I will be blunt. Early level equipment is poor and the attribtes are not good.

For irons, wait till you can get high trajectory irons (G25s in upper 50's), Decent wedges are available in the lower to mid 40's. But then the ball is the key, the higher spin rating the better (Max balls may have a slow meter but have poor spin attributes).

You need a combination of the club/ball to get true backspin.

Ok, thanks very much for the information. I will wait until I'm more experienced and am able to get better equipment.

I'm afraid that your choice of wedge (54°) was unfortunate - the shorter ones are more important.

    You can do something soon.

At L39, you might drop the Starter 3H and get yourself the ATV 60° and 64° wedges. (The L28 Cleves if you want to go the budget way).

This is intermediate, too - for real zzzipping backspin, the top wedges are necessary, together with top balls.

Plus, the "slow ball" path is an expensive path. It might help to save big bucks if you try the Tour-SD, Srixon or L33 Cally and learn some faster meter speed.

Your comments are much appreciated. I will check them out. I'm trying to better understand WGT and the forum seems to be a big help.

alosso's advice is prudent......but to save bad purchases ask the forum or use the search function.....it will save you in the long term (that is coming from someone who's first purchases were lemons and outgrew them in days lol)

Says L35 on your profile now, but I'm sure you'll get there soon ;-)

all real good points....... another thing to take advantage of is free rental weekend.....you can try all the clubs your level allows at the time and not waste credits....... the only good thing about your early purchases is if you buy a bag to put them in....lol

What you bought, most likely, was the "best equipment" for your level at the time. (My guess)

Take a look in the pro shop at the equipment available at much higher levels and then compare them to your equipment.   You'll start to understand the specs of the clubs and maybe see why you aren't getting the backspin that you were wanting.

The advice/replies above gave some real sound advice though.   I am wondering about your reference to being L38 but only showing L35 on your profile though.  SMH
