panzer32: 3W is not good though, if you don't need much carry it'll go about 200 especially if you punch it.
For the newer players not yet familiar with a long rough shot...the 3Wood punch often advances you farther down the fairway than a 3Wood regular shot does. It can be dangerous and not work all the time, especially out of fescue at St A's, also you will want it "clear" in front of you, as it won't clear traps, hazards, etc. (The 3Wood punch can go 200 yds plus, whereas a 3Wood regular shot from that rough would not go half as far.)
I remember a long time ago I was lucky enough to play a game at BP with NCVIZ, she is one of the "spooky good one's" on WGT. She told me how to do it and I have been grateful for the advice ever since, it has saved a lot of shots for me.
You do need to practice the 3Wood punch and it will betray you on occasions, when you don't factor in the lie and percentage of rough carefully enough. As this ridiculous 3Wood punch attempt at Oakmont of mine depicts (it actually went backwards into a sand trap....lol.)
