I use Nike+81 balls, distance 5. Just for fun, I used a WGT starter ball, distance 0, at Chamber's Bay Virtual Tournament unlimited, on the front 9. To my surprise, there was no distinguishable difference in the distance, not even with the driver. My virtual announcer, I call him "Frank", shouted, "That's a huge drive!", twice. The last one was when I had the exact same cross-wind on a par 5, dinged it, and hit the rock ball to the exact same spot as I had hit the Nike. I'm curious. Anyone see a problem here?

On the face of it, it does seem a little odd, but the distance attribute increases distance, obviously, while the spin attribute decreases distance.

The plus factor of having a ball with a spin attribute is more control, and club specification also comes into the equation.

Try adding about 30% top spin to your drive on the Nike+81 balls, distance 5.

    What happens?

But be aware, as you might have guessed, that method has different results with the irons/wedges (esp. the 9i, PW, etc.)

In addition, the general suggestion for added distance to a drive w/ a significant wind from behind it to add back spin. The drive I made below i think was about 90% back spin. The trajectory w/ BS kicks the ball higher in the air. The tailwind pushes the ball forward.

Wow, that makes so much sense yet I had never thought of it or heard of it anywhere else here.

I hadn't thought of it either, but it certainly works. Thanks for the tip!

You must be kidding, same distance in drive with the starter as a (fake) ball with +5? LOL

I play with the starter ball from two years (so so) & I can certainly say is impossible make that's ''long'' drives as made the payout balls, yes that can happens in SOME hit, but for some reason that ball have MORE ADDED distance & for some reason the people pay for it  :)

My stats with a 270 Driver:

    Avg. Driving Distance 269 Yd.

    Driving Accuracy 90.34%

Did it again. Best of Par 4. Hole 1 is #17, Congressional, split fairway. Used Kiawah gift ball, distance rate: 2. Wind was tailwind, 10-12. Dinged it, bounced once at 295 in long grass, then onto fairway to 345 yards. Virtual announcer yelled, "Huge drive".

Used my Nike 81 ball. Distance rate: 5. Restarted until I got same wind, 10-12, and dinged it. Bounced once in long grass and then again, and rolled onto fairway to 335 yards. Virtual announcer was silent.

I did this experiment because my drives have been losing notable yardage with the Nike 81.

    Anyone else?
