Anyone can answer this question of mine, probably some old timer will know this.  We all know  the balls wear out  when are driving, or  wedging   a shot to the green and it is normal . When on the green and we are putting there is no ball wear that i know of.     My question is on a stroke play game if i putt  from the fringe or fairway does it count    has a putt in the game stats specially if i drain the put ,  or does it count has a wedge shot  where there would be ball wear ?    On our  stats  does it count has a putt with no wearing or  does it wear the ball anyway?????       I just hope my bad use of  English      his understood    by some LOllllll        .      Francois (Frapp)             PS:      WGTicon or WGTshoe  you are welcome to answer this one .

    Hiya Frappe,

I believe.....if you are on the fringe and using your putter, it counts as a hit on your ball life and does not count as a putt in your stats. I have sunk putts from the fringe and my card will show zero putts for the hole.

    You're right, twinponds.

Same applies to other shots (wedge etc) on the green.

But, there's a second stats where both of them count as putts.

One is the putt count on the scorecard, the other is in the "putting" stats.

Disregarding mulligans completely, the easiest way to remember what will count as wear on your ball is this...

If the ball icon shows the spin dot, the hit will count as wear, irrespective of the club you are using.

If the ball icon does NOT show the spin dot, the hit will NOT count as wear, irrespective of the club you are using.

    IBTD:

Wedges etc. on the green have no spin dot but their shots do count off ball life.

I know it is generally thought that Putts from the fringe count for ball wear, I think it's also thought the level 34 cally gives 120 hits. I saw a post from fmagnets recently saying he got 123 hits from the cally or 120 not counting putts from the fringe, Something doesn't add up right and I strongly suspect it's not Mags.

I'm pretty sure this has been comprehensively tested, and the results have shown that wear does not occur when there is no spin dot.

EDIT : My apologies Alosso, you are correct. Andy and I had tested this fairly comprehensively a while back, WGT could have changed something since then though.
