During a round, could you keep the wind strength the same or a mile mph higher or lower but from the same direction?  In other words, if the 1st hole is due north and the wind is 4 mph it's against but as the holes shift, the wind strength stays the same +/- 1 mph but the direction changes and by hole 4 or 5 the wind is behind at 4 mph.  See?  I hope.

Right now it's not really fair that if I have a 2 mph wind 'with' on #1 yet it increases to a 6 mph at right angles from the left to the drive on #2.  It's unrealistic weather-wise I think.

If you want to add wind variables as regards strength AND ANNOUNCE THEM in a weather report I don't have a problem but once the wind changes direction, it it does, then that direction should be constant through all holes afterward because that's normally the way weather works.  You have a front come through.  Winds could be variable.  Then in comes through and winds, direction-wise are constant.

I think you understand my point...I hope.

Hey Pete - from the home of golf in scotland, our courses here hole one may go north, the next may be slightly north west, then west, a cheeky par 3 back to the east before one heads south west and so on - so even if the wind is somewhat constant in direction - where it is coming from on each tee compared to the direction to the green may be totally different as may the strengthy be - some days more gusty than others...... I have been an played the Ocean Course in person and its mighty real seeing it again here - and I recall the wind being at different angles as I played too - im still a hack at this online game, just keeping practicing and taking note of how the wind direction and speed affects my aim is all part of that.... just like the real game

Now - taking your point forward - a course planner when each hole loads showing the direction of the wind, then you can see where each hole lies relative to the wind in advance so there are no shocks on the tee... or tees ahead

you got to admit - theres nothing to touch this for quality online...

     Hiya golfbug

Ah!  A links course!  I understand your point and a course planner would be nice along with a general weather report for the round (we've yet to get rain).  But I still feel that, in general, wind direction is constant based on hole orientation although speed could differ on a given hole depending on weather conditions.

As I said....in general.  Of course there will be days where winds are variable and gusty.  What's golf without weather?!

    :)

I agree completely.  I grew up playing Bethpage Black, and there is no way you can play into a headwind on both holes 10 and 11 since they are parallel, yet the game does that to me frequently.  The wind direction is very inconsistent relative to the actual course layout.

Funny that you should mention this...  Playing St. Andy's the other day I was watching for the big tailwind to (hopefully) increase my long drive record...

I had a wind in my face for every hole but 8.  Good luck getting a long-drive award on 8...

Not that I'm complaining, mind you... but a bit o' realism would be nice as far as the wind is concerned.

    Peace.
