Why aren't my friends showing up in my friends list when i'm online... Old ones still do but new ones don't...

Hey there, the issue you have run into is that you actually have too many friends on your list. If you delete friends down to a total of about 240, the friends you were having trouble with should start to receive all of the correct features again.

If you have trouble deleting friends, start at the last page and work your way forward. As you delete older friends newer ones should start to have the remove function.

    Champion,

Is this just a glitch in the system? Why in the world should "having too many friends" be a problem?

It's not even a glitch but a "natural" limitation.

By design or by chance, there's apparently a "one byte" storage limitation somewhere in the programming around the friends list, causing the list to act up above 255 friends, that's 2^^8 - 1.

OTOH, it's not a big deal. I'd guess that amongst 255 "friends" there are quite a few of loose contacts of no current importance. There's also a rumour that >100 names on the list might cause meter problems...

I believe it is related to the 256 character limit in Windows.

I think you are absolutely wrong on this my friend!! It is a big deal, more than flashing eagles and hitting flagsticks, disconnections, unexpected errors  and 1.759.002 other bugs.

I made 99% of my friends during game play (alt or mps). I played with them and had fun many many times. So, who does WGT suggest to eliminate and how? I just delete them? I randomly pick some and cut them off?

What a nice and gentle thought...

Well, i prefer to live on with this bug/limitation (call it whatever you like) than decapitate around 400 friends because of a windows problem (windows problem is the best known euphemism ever conceived since all we know that windows are just perfect!! LOL).

Sorry but i can't do that...it's so sad.

If you play regularily with 200+ online friends, then I suffered of a totally wrong preconception. Please accept my excuse.

Alas, I don't think that it's a Windows problem (certainly not directly dependant on the character number) - they can handle a lot bigger numbers. But, programmers have to make decisions on dimensions of variables or accept preset values, and IMHO the root is deep in there.

Nevertheless, you won't be able to communicate equally with all of those - also a sad state! As a remedy, you'd have to delete some of them one by one.
