Aimer/Triangle HELP please

  Denizens of WGT - something been bothering me for a while and need your advice/opinions

  I am trying to understand the Aimer/Triangle and how to best utilize it for shots all over the course.

  The way I use it now on Drives/Irons is to set it at (my perceived) landing spot and hit away. BUT.... if I hit into the wind, it seems to fly where I think it should (making me believe it is my poor spotting and wind adjustment)

  However, it seems even when I Ding the shot, the shot does NOT track to the mark. Needless to say, if I miss with the wind, well let's just say I'm happy if it is not a lost ball :))

  Can someone Explain this to me or help me understand its(aimer) purpose - right now I am confused as heck

  So, being a Legend you must have some success in aiming and shooting - 61 average as a TM isn't too easy...

  One basic rule for me is not to play with a very close aimer position - rather longer than the intended shot than too short. There may be some issues of parallax or angle distortion involved.

  Generally, it's necessary to move the aimer, at least from the tee, because the default is poor, frequently aiming to the rough. I also like to see what is out at 280+ yds where my drive's gonna land. Then, all the game variables kick in - you know them, don't you?

  Reports here as well as my meagre experience agree that dinging a shot isn't always the best. Missing a tad against the wind or - for putts - upslope helps to achieve the wanted results.

  The aimer triangle relates only to the direction the ball would go without any wind influence.

  It does not have any bearing at all on the distance the ball will travel - that is determined by the club and power you use. So don't stick the marker out at 300 yds and wonder why your 3i does not go that far.

  The wind will influence the ball in flight - both sideways and distance impact.

  So if you are driving the ball, and with the wind shown you think the ball will travel 300 yds and the sideways impact of the wind will be 15 yds --- then you should place the aiming triangle out at 300 yds and move it sideways 15 yds to allow for the wind movement.

  Well...  it does not have to be out at 300 yds -- in fact it can be anywhere along the correct aiming line -- but it is simpler to get it right by placing the aiming marker out at the correct distance, and then moving it for the required offset.

  On some occasions you will find that you cannot move the marker sideways enough due to OOB restrictions -- and you may need to bring the marker in closer to get the required line.

  This all assumes you are aiming for the Ding -- if you go off-ding to shape the ball to counter the wind influence - you will need to make changes to how far you move the aiming marker sideways.

  This may be hogwash, but I've always considered the triangle in the mini map to be 24 yards across. Checking my stats, you'll see that I miss quite a few fairways, but it is a real time saver. Of course, on some holes the triangle is skewed.

  alosso - true I have gotten to Legend (really wasn't expecting to get here only 4wks or so after getting to TM, never even got to win a tournament :) - turned on game one day and BAM!! I'm a Legend - been trying to catch up for the last 14months - but I digress)

  I try to place the arrow at my proposed landing spot - ex. for my driver about 265/270yd out -  and then adjust for wind speed. This question is more about Ding and Direction. It would seem logical to me that if I ding the shot, it should fly along the target line and the wind would take it to where I really want it to land. However, it seems if I ding it, the ball more often than not flys to the FLAG, regardless of where I set the marker !! (I guess I didn't note this in my original ask). Of course, seeing this happen, more often than not I do try to miss-ding on the wind side. Does this make sense ?? - And, if this is the way it is, then so be it - just wanted to know I wasn't crazy (about, this thought anyway - have other crazy ideas, but that's for another day)

  Neil, yes, I agree. As above, do you find the ball does not go to marker but tracks moreso to the Flag if you ding the shot

  JimBeau, thanks for the info - 24yds. Good to know, if only as a starting point. I never thought to see how large the triangle may be. I do notice that it appears to coincide with the circle of deviation more often than not - unless it is an extreme HEAVY wind (like 25mph+)
