Looking for a little advice. Based solely on distance. Is the Taylormade Level 84 R15 3 Wood better than the Level 81 Ping ? Thanks in advance.

played the ping 81 for a few months... R15 is a better club.. fly's higher and land softer +more distance.

When I had the 81+ Ping it was the G20 . At your level you have some good wiggle room when it comes to choices .The L84+ and the L86+ have the same specs but the L86+ Nike has a slower meter .You can also wait on the 89+ Bertha  which is what I gave up for the L86+ nike . Although the L86+ says 242 yds it gets more than that and its a great club . I dont regret buy it at all .

If you wait on the Bertha I warn you that she will bite you sometimes if you play off the ding . But you have 4 woods to pick from 81 84 86 and 89 . Spend the credits and get the 86+ nike you wont be sorry .

I will partially defend this club, as it can also play very well with pretty good stopping properties.

Sometime it gets bagged for it's eccentric mind of it's own (where a dinged shot shoots off on a tangent) but overall is usually pretty good. Missed dings I find will usually come up short.....pretty much the way they should IMO.

You forgot to add and in the next county  : )

The BB is a brilliant driver.  Most of the time.  Miss the ding though and you're probably going to need hiking boots and a rucksack before you trek off into the rough looking for it.  Better take a days supply of food and drink too.

I tried a Max Meter 3 wood after finding the Bertha too wayward, then a TM, whatever the top level one is.  They both failed to get upto the hole on the long par 3 holes at RSG with any sort of head wind though so went back to Bertha after giving her a stern warning and leaving her in no doubt as to what would happen if she didn't behave.  I don't know whether my memory had gone a bit but it seemed there was more forgiveness than I remember and we got on just fine.

Then I saw the Nike Vapor Fly and had to write old Bertha a Dear Joan letter  : (

Hate the new Nike 3wd. Its awful, has got everything. Don't think even the elite clubs should have everything. Always nice to have a trade off of some sort, so you can choose your clubs. I can understand why WGT would do that as its to get most sales of the new club, but they're missing a trick there JMO. Unless ofc they rebrand the L97 BB with high trajectory and keep the same punishing forgiveness, then we have a bit of a decision to make

The only problem with that is , is that no one wants to be punished when it comes to forgiveness . Especially if you play off the ding then you want as much forgiveness as the law allows . IMO too much hype is put on hitting the ding which as a miss the ding player I find is just that hype .

From tee to green hitting the ding on every shot is not needed in order to hit a quality shot . Me I love the new Nike driver and 3 wood and now I`m waiting to see what the new L100 irons are going to be like other than a slower meter than the current L100 irons . I`m hoping for more than a new face lift and a slower meter . Maybe a tad more spin and a whisper more distance than what the specs may show .

There will have to be a good reason for the L100+ gang to upgrade to the newer irons other than a new look . So only time will tell . Hopefully the new irons will be added with the next update along with some much needed game fixes but only time will tell .
