    Smitty640:

Thanks for the help.  I have read on the forum about back spin.  How do I do that?

As others have said, using starter balls and clubs, don't expect much for backspin. However, putting full backspin on the shot can make it go higher (and shorter). Useful if going uphill to a green, or if you're using a short iron / wedge and want it to stop relatively quickly. As an example:

If your 9 iron goes 120 yds in the air and rolls 6 yds after landing (126) total, it might go 118 in the air and roll 4 yds (122) with 1/2 backspin but be a little higher ball flight, or 116 air, 2 roll (118 total) with full backspin and be higher. So this same club, hit the same power can actually have an 8 yd difference.
