One time I ended up 0.6 feet from the hole
I play many ctth courses, & yes, leaving them on top of the hole is common, either way you still achieve a pleasure, knowing that your planned shot has brought you that close, gOOdgOlfin'2ya!, Jessica...it'll happen.

I have a replay of a shot at BP #8, that goes in the hole on the fly, then bonces out of the hole & a replay at Kiawah #5 that was a perfect shot that gently is deflected hitting the pin. You'll get your Aces & hole in ones along the way..keep playing.
