I have realized that each player get random settings for his game in a tournament. If wind is moderate, it will be moderate for all, but "moderate" differs both in strength and direction. So does, I believe, pin placement. On St Andrews for instance, some holes are safe birdies when the wind is right and difficult pars when its "wrong".

Would it not be fair of the parameters that decides the wind and pin placement was locked by the tournament so that all players get the same chance?

This would apply to single play tournaments, unlimited can of course not be locked in this way because it would allow people to fine tune every hole and learn things about the game that they are not supposed to know.

I agree with you 100%... for single play tournaments and RG's.  Would also be nice for practice games as many CC's use these for setting comps with multiple players all playing at once, but I don't think this would be possible.

No, there would eventually be an unfair advantage once someone has played the tourney, they could pass the difference on to thier friend, who could then re-equip thier clubs to take the most advantage of the conditions.

I/e...carry 4 wedges, or 3w and 3h with 2 wedges, etc.  If I knew the par 5 on the back nine of SA was downwind, I'd carry 4 wedges, if I knew it was into the wind, I'd carry a 3wood and toss a wedge...etc.

It wouldn't work. Most top players talk and while I doubt they would reveal wind for each hole in the tournament they are in, it is possible.

If you know you can't reach par 5's for example. you may switch clubs for 4th wedge, which would give you major advantage on other holes.

Sorry, that sounds like a far fetched reason. Sure, it might happen, but how often and is it really a problem? Is it more painful to lose to someone that brought 4 wedges instead of someone who made an eagle on St Andrews 10 when you had 23 mph headwind at the same hole?

    IMO, conditions should be equal.

    Not nessesarily.

This maybe hard to imagine, but better players know exactly how much they got left in what winds. So, if you know certain holes play what ahead of time, you can bring right clubs.

I would be very much against so. If you play RG's on a regular basis, wind will even out

Maybe an option then, for club tournaments. I agree RG's might be abused, one could for instance post wind info for all the members in a CC, but for more "friendly" type of tournaments like most CC are it would be a nice option.

It's gotta be random wind dirrections.

The "Multi accounters" could get practice round in and take notes of exactly what the conditions are and then burn it up with their proper player.

I say keep it as it is

Well, this may stun you Icon, but I think I agree with you, so I'm changing my mind.

WGTSky - can you throw some water over Icon, I think he's fainted because I agreed with him!

I have to agree with keeping it as is or maybe even more random. On a real course it is very rare that the wind is the same from one moment to the next. How often have you been on a course and your playing partner hits his ball just as a gust of wind comes up and then when you hit yours from 40 yrd away it has died down or turned. The more realistic the better.
