Just finished a 9 hole tourney at Oakmont and at the end of the round i though i'll check my stats although in my mind i knew what to expect, 100% fairways with one green missed in regulation.

No so according to the stats 86% fairways hit, yet on the hole by hole part it shows a green tick against hitting each fairway available.

Just wondering is this a bug or am i missing something?

Did you hit your driver off every tee other than par 3's? If you used any other club it would not count in your driving accuracy. Driving accuracy is only shots with a driver.

That totally explains it, i did hit a 3 wood on one hole.

Does that make sense though to reduce your accuracy score just because you didnt use a driver?

Maybe not, but it's driving accuracy which would imply using your driver. That's the only thing I can think.

I'm not too worried about my driving accuracy going down if I use something less than driver.

It's all about hitting the fairway. I'd rather hit the fairway with a 3 wood than hit a driver into the rough.

actually I am not even worried about hitting the fairway unless I hit the fescue. What really matters is hitting the greens. And with the better irons you can hit the green from the rough most of the time. The stats that count most or the ones I worry about most are greens in regulation sand saves and scrambling. Because these 3 are what affects your scores the most. Meaning work on your short game. Get it close enough when you miss the green to 1 putt for a par instead of 2 putting for  bogey. Or pitch or chip in for a birdie.

The main advantage of hitting fairways is you don't risk going into thicker rough with poorer lies.

Finishing on the fairway always means that you can attack the green. Going into 30/40 rough or worse, which is always a possibility when you miss the fairway, usually means attacking the green is difficult, although not always impossible.

That being said, I'm possibly judging that when playing from the legend tees. Hitting a long iron from the rough isn't the best thing to be doing.

I very rarely use anything less than a driver from the tee anyway, recently I prefer to hit a punched driver if there is a water/hazard risk from going to far.
