have just finished a round on the old course at st andrews in real life and the wind was no more than 10mph all the way round.

Great shooting...what was the green fees?, if you don't mind me asking and heard there is a waiting list to get on... I'm planning a trip over there nxt year and would love to play the course.

a ballot is held to get a tee off time.....which was arranged by the group as a birthday present for me.

green fees at this time of year -  around £70....high season it's £140 a round.

you can get all the upto date info here Roger.

    http://www.standrews.org.uk/

also if you're planning a trip over then there are quite a number of golf holiday operators that will do package deals and you can play a few of the open courses.

    cheers

I'm not trying to be sarcastic or anything here, but how do you know it was a 10mph wind???

    technology mate....

there's a digital wind speed meter in the clubhouse....tells you what the wind speeds are outside on the course.

obviously it wasn't 10mph all the way round....might have been between 2.756mph and 11.57357 mph lol....but overall it was a very calm day.

Thanks for the info TBE...I will check it out. The Golf Holiday Packages sounds a great idea...saves all the mucking around with  everything.  Two things in life I want to do, Cricket Tour with the Aussies in West Indies and play St.Andrews...if the timing is right, might get to do both of em.

Ahhh...you don't have pay anything to go in the Tourneys... there are heaps of Free Comps that you can enter.. $20 clubs at best...last ya life time... pretty cheap to have some fun playing the game I think. 'Fake Tourneys' ...well, there're not really Fake... you play against everybody else who enters and if you shoot a great round you might win, I think I've won 5..all at St.A...not many for the Elite, but a big buzz for me.

    Cheers

heavy wind and more f*cking heavy wind....

this is getting as boring as hell.

all huge 31 mph head winds.....it's a ton of s-h-i-t-e that's what it is.

i don't mind some heavy wind tourneys.....but give it a rest man....it's almost summer.....you gonna have hurricane tourneys in august???

how about some moderate condition rg's. i don't want no wind rg's......just a little variation from blow the a$$ out of your pants conditions the majority of the time.

i still enter the heavy wind conditions in the arrant hope that i might have just a few tail winds....but hell no lol.....all in the kisser 30 mph headwinds.

    i'm only a legend....i ain't a superhero.

EA Sports just announced that the Tiger Woods console game with Augusta as a playable course will have a component where the weather on the game matches the actual weather for that day at Augusta.

    As TBE would put it:

    just sayin'

Why does it matter to the folks who decide the tourny conditions what the winds and green speeds are?

I have read that the heavy winds and fast greens improve our game and we should expect more of them in upcoming tourneys, shouldn't we be the ones to decide if we want our game 'improving' - this isn't school where you have to set harder and harder challenges, its meant to be fun and relaxing (most of the time anyway)

And does it matter if the wind is low and the greens are standard? and a really low score wins?, its all relative - if a 59 wins then your score should be better also, and it gives variety in the game play.

A tour master event with low standard winds would be good - over 18 would be even better, would this hurt anyone at WGT - No, would people join up and pay their 100 credits, Yes - so where is the harm?

Stop telling us how we should improve in this game, and remember thats what it is - a game - if you get too heavy, like your preferred winds people will leave and your money supply will dry up.  As someone pointed out, your business model is flawed and won't be sustainable if you continue to ignore your customer concerns
