Fairly new player.  Have asked questions and have read postings, but still confused about what the attributes mean.

I can figure out some, forgiveness. precision, trajectory.

Balance for putters has been explained.

    Average distance self explanatory.

    Shot shaping?

Meter speed?  Does the club affect the meter or is it only the ball?

Spin, do you also need a ball with a good spin number also?

Durability, how many rounds you can play with a ball before it goes "poof"

Distance for balls, higher number, they go further?

I may have missed a one or two, but I think I have them all.  Realize these are newbie questions, but just want to make sure I understand what each attribute means.

    Thanks

Shot shaping  is actually nothing as they have never added to the game. We can not hit true draws and fades.

Both the club and ball affect meter speed. The higher the number the slower your meter will be.

Spin yes you also need a ball with a good spin rating to get the optimal results for your shots. But you can use balls with less spin and play for more roll out.

Durability  is not rounds. Each rating has so many shots not including putts before the ball is taken out of play. There is a thread with a list of how many shots for each durability rating.

Distance, yes the higher the number the farther the ball should go.

This thread (see below) will give you an idea about durability. Scroll down about halfway for a chart.

Concerning both items, clubs (irons + woods) and balls must match for best effectiveness. Balls with high numbers (and high prices) will be wasted on low quality clubs. Vice versa, high class clubs can only be played perfectly with very good balls.

As a rule of thumb, I recommend to match them by release level. For instance, don't play a L71 ball with L45 irons, and you don't need to buy L100 clubs if you want to stick with cheaper L33 balls.

Putting is different: Balls only differ in meter speed but putters show all qualities except spin.

    @ScottHope

Thanks! That's a great tip and wasn't aware of that option. I really appreciate it.
