    Woodoworkery:

OAK #4 tee shot to the 5th FW.

You hit it too far right. It disappears when it lands on the right half of that FW. This ball would be perfectly fine IRL, but not here. There's a system OOB which is valid only on #4. There are a few, also on STA. Apparently, these become active when there are no pictures towards the flag for the next shot. I've had a ball disappear in flight there ;)

Thanks Alosso, so WGT wins again, and I'm out a ball

In a couple of the views it looks like it landed in the ditch.  Try blowing it up a couple of times. A couple of the views carry it out of picture when blown up to see exactly where it landed. Don't think it actually landed in the fairway, as one view shows.

    Exactly.

A while back, in practice mode, I tried hitting into an adjacent fairway on one course to test if it would give me a shot (it may even have been Oakmont). Even though the ball clearly landed in the fairway each time, it came up as "out of  bounds" and resulted in a lost ball. Obviously, I did the test with starter balls.

So unlike real life, there are times that adjacent fairways are not going to be in play.

You can hit it to the 1st fairway at St. Andrews when playing the 18th.  I'm not sure what the reasoning is on the various holes and courses.

Their photographers may have fanned out there more than on other tracks. One notorious "OOB" spot is on STA#7 where some try to avoid the long rough by bailing out to the FW on the far left. Only a small patch of that FW is available, further left costs a ball.

Lol Paul, Always loved this band. I saw them in a club back in '83 and it was without a doubt the most fun show I've ever been to.

It was a memorable night as I had seen Elvis Costello at another venue earlier that evening.
