when you lose a ball that you do not have an exact match for, but have other balls in your bag you should be able to chose one not leave game or use default starter balls. The game keeps giving you messages about buying new balls even after you purchase them and are still stuck with starter balls

The game doesnt recognize the other balls in your inventory only what you are equipt with . There was reported a bug with the buy message awhile back seems like it has yet to be fixed . In the future after making such a purchase save and quit the game then restart it . This should reload the files and add balls to your bag . Never play a ranked round with one ball no exceptions . A mishit can cause you to go out of bounds or in the water and then there you go stuck with the rock .

    Which are these?

You have one type&colour in your bag, the bag is locked during the game,
and the other balls are in the inventory (imagine: your garage).

No change, no replacement, and the beer cart girl has only YOUR golf balls available...

The way the game was programmed those other balls are exactly the same as the free golf clubs that are still in your inventory but not "in your bag" while you're playing. They're simply not on the course with you.

Switching equipment in the middle of the game is not allowed. The starter ball is something that EVERYONE has so it was hard-coded as the default replacement so people could at least finish whatever game they were playing.

The programming required to allow substitutions at the discretion of the player would probably create so many other problems the game would become totally unplayable.

There is also a financial incentive for WGT NOT to allow it. Players around the world have millions of dollars in unused balls sitting in inventories. Allowing players to use them up as replacements would reduce ball sales accordingly.

Why when you run out of a ball you are left with the rocks?  Isn't that a wgt no-no since you can only play with 1 kind of ball??

Because the alternative would be to either force you to quit that round or to purchase another sleeve of the ball you started the round with.

Aka bawbags. Loads on here - all irreplaceable.

Keep your eyes peeled and you'll come across one (or two) hanging around.
