The title says it all really.

Just turned master after happily playing well as a tour pro using Ping K15's, all of sudden i can barely reach some fairways.

On the 7th at bethpage i was 100 yards short after my 2nd..........it's like using the beginers clubs all over again.

I clearly need more distance from the tee but i'm only level 54 so the G10's are a way of yet. Is going for the 2010 v2 rapture driver, a mere extra 5 yards plus a distance ball a stupid idea?

The ball is a good idea but unless you do something about that slow meter you're never going to get off the tee with distance. All the decent drivers use a faster meter. If I were in your shoes I'd wait to get the R9 driver in a few more levels and use a G series ball to slow it down, like the GI-SD. You get 2 dots of spin and distance so it will help you across the board.  GL

The level 54 ping driver might be a good match till he gets use to the faster meter. Its a little more of a forgiving driver than the r9. But dont worry, i thought the same thing about moving up too the big drivers with faster meters. got use to it and didnt take too long.

I think the R9 is around level 62 with the G10's level 58 ish (if memory serves me right).

Do you think i can keep using the k15 irons or eventually do you need the matching irons of the G10 or R9?

Also how much does the ball actually slow down the meter?

I still use my old raptures from time to time but i prefer the g10 irons just because they have more precision. the biggest thing for me was having the same meter speed on all my clubs, that helped in my rythem. but when i use my raptures the rythem isnt so far off that it kills me. it will be a trial and error thing. there alot of good players that use the long drivers but still use their raptures, so i would first try a longer driver and get use to that first then see if the difference in meter speed from your irons hurts or helps you. I have both the g10 driver and the r9 driver and use both depending on what course and how im hitting. If you want the extra 5 yards, wait for the r9, want a little more forgiving driver get the g10. And yes the ball does slow the meter down. try the gi-d/gi-s/gi2-d or gi2-s balls. you will see the difference

Without a doubt GM. You just have to play a different game because when elevations to the green are involved you're at a little disadvantage. What makes the G10 and i15s better is the fact that they have a higher trajectory and can negotiate the elevation changes better. With the Med/High flight of your irons you need spin to hold a lot of greens because you come in low and hot. Just getting a decent driver will make your irons easier to play because you'll be closer and the elevation concern fades a bit.

See for yourself, I just sent you some.   :-)

What a star you are :) Nice one Jim thank you so much.

In answer to everyone's help I'll get the G10 driver when i get to that level and we'll see how it goes.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
