Approach shots

  I think alot of people including myself aim to get get close to the pin calculating uphill/downhill and wind etc. But that's not the way to play it. Approach shots should be hit to a spot on the green where it rolls to the pin or a spot that leaves easy putt. 

  So how can you view the green for an approach shot to determine where you want the ball to land for easy putt or hole out?

  Or do you guys some how have all the greens mapped out showing the undulations?

  Temporarily switch to chip or pitch for your approach shot and drag the aim marker around on the green to see the topography. But don't forget to reset your shot type before you make your approach.  : )

  Learn the punch and flop shots with your wedges . The punch shot can be your best go to once you learn how to use it and the flop as well . Both are very essential needs to your short game . When attacking the pin wind and elevation are important and yes shot placement is key . But you have to learn each hole and how to play it . This why practice is so important .

  Use the practice stroke play and learn each course hole by hole . In doing so you will learn what it is you want to know . I dont play from notes just from memory but once you learn good course management shot selection and ball placement you will play well no matter the course . Good luck and hope this helps .

  Yes I understand it when you are right near the green to switch to putter, pitch, chip to get the grid the switch back.

  I'm talking about when you have a 100yd or more approach shot.

  Thanks Gary. I already have that website and hadn't seen the maps. LOL. That website has helped a lot. :)) I just had to adjust some things to how I play, what my clubs do and how to approach each shot. I have a fair amount of work on a spreadsheet of my own now. Thanks again. Alan.

  I'm talking about when you have a 100yd or more approach shot.

  It doesn't matter how far the shot is. If you change to a camera with a view of the green and switch your shot to pitch you are able to see the grid around the aim marker.  You can even zoom in and get a good look at what the contours are.
