Solar with quite the knowledge there.

I'm thinking I will but the RSI2 set and sell the hybrid back and get the driver, 3WD, irons on the same meter and just get used to it.

You've made a good choice Robert - to sacrifice a little distance and  accuracy.    But in return you get a meter you can control - with a better success-rate of dings and correct shots.

    Thanks! I appreciate it.

And thanks for all you do here, sharing your insights and knowledge. That's very generous of you to take the time to do that.

FunnyWobbl - I'd say that I would advise to wait a little.  There is still work to be done.  Saturate as legend , lower that average at least to 64 and start knocking-in 30's and 60's a bit more - using the good stuff you have.  At L90 just upgrade your balls to platinums or blacks and enjoy the game.

Your present gear is all very capable of those low-30's scores and , aside from the fact that you haven't had those clubs long - I feel that the move to RSi2's is for the player that can perhaps go no further with the V-forge or Flys , and still seeks to shave 1 or 2 shots per round.

    I don't feel that RSi2's will turn 35's into 33's somehow - or 33's into 31's either.

Your stats FunnyWobbl tell the story of someone who has recently upgraded - and , apart from driving-distance , the other stats are very respectable for 500 RR's - with possibly a shaky start (like me) .  I can see that you are improving very quickly , and it would be good to consolidate all those learnings and advancements on a firm-footing , whilst putting them to good use , in order to lower those scores and have more exhilarating rounds.

At this time , the R15 set just might upset the apple-cart.  Unleashing your 4.0 meter experience on a driver that goes 310yards with a 3.0 meter - is a brave move.  Was your previous driver the R1 275?  Just a couple of months ago?  Yep , it would be brave.

But do-able , exciting and , since you are at L89 - this can balance-out any foolhardiness if you are prepared to give it your best shot.   The L90 Black slowing that meter down a little , would be an asset.    Play your normal game with them - and then maybe come back later and refer to my previous-post at some point.

By all means buy the full set and sell the hybrid - but I'd recommend keeping your existing driver and 3 wood for a while.   If the R15's turn-out to be too much of a handful - then you can tame your bag by using your old woods , and just be really attentive on the iron-shots meter.

    ................

Edit -  I'm sorry this was edited a couple of times , and hope you return here to read the whole thing MrFW.   Obviously the "Budgies on a Stick" clubs have only been around a couple of months - so the recent upgrade thing is a safe bet.  lol   That's not to say the stat-reading from me is posturing - at this stage it's too easy to read them 2 or 3 different ways though.    Even so , you have a 1 in 3 chance , by my reckoning  and after much study , of making the right decision for the future if you buy the R15 set at this time.

I definitely appreciate the advice. I will note first that I have been using the Nike Level 70 balls in competitive play (read: RGs) lately. I have other balls equipped as I have been cleaning out the balls I still have from freebies or past balls, and am trying to save up 6.7k for the R1 set from surveys.

I hadn't thought that maybe I could get more out of the Nikes. I've been getting better lately (last 2 weeks) at hitting irons to correct yardages since using the GS calculator, regardless I am still struggling with rollout on a lot of greens and I had thought the Taylormades would give me the ability to stick most greens and not have to worry about calculating to land 5-6 yards short on some greens.

Yes, I would say my stats are on the rise and I am getting better. My driving accuracy has been about where it is since I started the game as i have always found that to be fairly easy. My GIR is definetly improving consistently, as is my scrambling. My sand play still needs work, but that is more wedges than irons. My putting is improving, slowly, but I still struggle with three putting sometimes.

Too be honest, I am not overly worried about the meter of the RSi2s. Outside of my computer issues with clicks not registering, I don't find I struggle with meter speeds, and I think most meter speeds produce the same % of dings after adjusting to the new meter. I imagine I would struggle at first with a 3.0 meter, but after a month, I figure I would ding close to the same % that I do on my current irons. However, is there less forgiveness on the RSi2s? This thread has made it sound like that if you miss the ding on the Rsi2s you are going to get punished much more than a similar misding on the vapor flys?

Since I quit buying credits when my country club member was undemocratic sentenced by WGT to a life away from this game, I have earned survey creds at a quick enough clip to almost afford the Rsi2 in a couple of months. All while regularly buying 450 sleeve balls. Given that 90-97 (the next iron set) will likely take atleast a year. I don't see a big cost to me, as I will likely earn another 10k from creds (and hopefully some from RGs) by then.

I went through one recent L Tier RG (quick look at score history if wondering why one you were in).  Top 6 or 7 I saw a couple of L90 RSi2 sets, a couple of L85 sets, one L79 Bladez set and one L59 set.

Last open tier one you played in you were the only one with a sub L90 set, and so well played with your finish..........OK higher level players, but ........................

I would not get too concerned about the L90 being less forgiving at your standard.  In fact the specs say same that way.  If you have ever tried the L79 Bladez the L90s are easier to use.  L90s will take a bit of getting used to for reasons explained, but nothing you can't handle............Choices really with your personal goals / money / liking the extra edge here and there.......Arguably that 3 meter speed does put the RSi2 set up for replacement sooner rather than later (L97 set a 4 meter).  Can't ignore that meter speed IMO and the................ L81 balls are 550credits..........Personal stuff:)

    Solarflares:

    Ok Simon.

At 100% power you will get maximum deviation.

Using full backspin you will also get maximum deviation.

We must look at the positives of the RSi2's from a different perspective if we really want to unlock their potential - and to notice the upgrade as something more than a couple of extra yards and a bit more bite.

    /.../

But good course-management can help dial-out that risk necessity.   You no longer need to be a slave to 100% power on drives.  Instead , play to where the approach angle facilitates your 2 yard rollout style.  If it's then an iron or two higher then  it doesn't matter , since you are in your comfort-zone style-wise - and you made sure of that by taking a low-risk drive.  Your whole game can snowball with rewarding results by having this discipline and reserved attitude.

    My goodness!!!

I think now it's getting way beyond the level of just playing a mere game for fun! You might get a Ph.D. degree out of this, Solar! LOL

Anyway, what an amazing insight you've got and I'll keep your words in mind when using the R15 set in near future.

Thank you and looking forward to reading your upcoming posts.

    Cheers!

    Simon

By the way, am I being too much of a brazenface if I ask whether there's a map of RSi2's with Black Ball?

No, but seriously I once mapped my current NIKE Vapor Fly Pro with NIKE 20XI-X Balls (L71+) and geez... it was such a time-consuming task! Knowing that, I'm not boldly asking for others' hard work & efforts, but politely asking if anybody's willing to kindly share it.

I'm willing to pay the 'royalty' (send a gift) within my reach.

    Regards,

Would also be willing to send a sleeve or two for some mapping of RSi2s. When I get there, that is.

I believe a lady called kilbraur has several maps of different irons. (She refers to them as yardage charts which I find fine naming.)

I didn't dare to send a friend invitation to her because I don't want to make her feel like she's used.
