I am the proud owner of this shot- a 7-iron approach on Oakmont #9:

The ball hits the downslope behind the bunker and rockets another 70 yards into the clubhouse (apparently), except I can still see the ball and I didn't get charged for a lost ball.  The next thing I see is 'immovable obstruction- free drop'...  except that my next shot is from my original position in the fairway and I'm hitting 3.  So my 'free drop' is really a stroke-and-distance penalty.

All I can figure is the game does not support a position from which to play at that location.  I guess the good news is a 50+ yard shot from heavy rough, to a fast green, might not get you any closer than another shot from the fairway???  I'm curious how the next shot turned out (wink).

Thanks, WGT, I did just do that with the replay.  I assume the information you'd get is the same?

no, reply is a reply, we see what you see.

bug report with good details (like, what u hit, did u ding, what you wanted to happen, what club, wind, etc) is much more detailed. it also provides us internal data and such which we can look into

    reply does nothing really.

Maybe I wasn't clear.  I played the replay and right-clicked and submitted bug report.  I hit a 7-iron, with no spin, missed the ding a hair early, expecting it to land in the bunker, really.  The wind was 13 mph helping, slight left to right.

Ah ok. I'll check it out on Monday.

BTW, mind me asking...from 171, why were u going for it? Short on hitting pin, there is 0 chance to stop it anywhere close

I guess I thought 7 iron into a green was a reasonable shot.  I really was expecting the bunker...  I just couldn't bring myself to lay up from 170.

I hear ya but since you played that hole before, you know better. It's like that ancient Greek Gorgona, as much as you know not to look at her, those who do are turned to stone. As much as you wish to go for this pin,. unless you're hitting 7i or better with callaway (i) balls, any other attempt to stick green is a simple bogey or worse.

Yes, the pin is hard, but it's not unreasonable. There are MANY holes in golf history, where going at the pin is consider foolish.
