Turned master a few weeks backs and was struggling getting any distance with my then set of K15's.

I looked at all the top players (master and above) and most use the G10’s or better, very few still use k15's etc.

So I bought the G10 3 wood and irons and well I’m struggling big time.

Not only is the sweet spot much smaller but any discrepancy away from the ding is punished way more than on my previous K15’s. For example on the 8th at Kiawah I hit a 4 iron and slightly sliced it, too my shock it sailed off into the lake L

I’m using the G12-S ball to slow the meter down but I don’t think it’s the speed that’s bothering me it’s more the very small target area and the fact if you don’t hit the ding u don’t get close, in fact you sometimes don't get on the green.

I know time and practise will help but having such a small target area really means if you don’t have a smooth meter your goosed and occasionally my meter is anything but smooth. I don’t get the sudden big laggy jerks but I do get slow stutter which makes hitting that ding a real headache.

Anyone any thoughts on the G10’s?

There's no question you made a good move getting those irons, GM. What you're seeing is the difference in the accuracy of the clubs. The K15s have huge forgiveness but little accuracy. Easy to hit, a crapshoot on where they will land (sorta.) This doesn't mean they're bad clubs, they're just for easier hitting. With the G10s you have to be more careful hitting them because they don't forgive mishits as well but they sure trump on the accuracy-the ball goes closer to where you aimed than with the K15s.

Something that might help is to play a few rounds with the free ball. The meter will seem like a jet propelled rocket. Then switch back to your regular ball and see the difference-it gets easier to ding them. Eventually it will be second nature to you but you have to commit to learning them. Give them 20-30 rounds, it will get easier.

had a lower set of G10's and could not get use to the meter. Am looking at the 2010 Raptures (graphite) seem to be easier to hit but maybe little less precise.

1/2 as accurate in fact. That's the trade off-if you want them to hit easier you have to give up the accuracy. Icon still uses them (or did when he was playing as a Legend)  so they can't be all that bad.  :-)

I just recently in the last couple of days made it to master and lvl 59 and was able to buy the G10 series of irons. While they do have a smaller target area on the meter, once you get used to it they are amazing. I have only played a few rounds so far from the master tees with them, but as it stands I have consistently shaved 5 strokes off my game basically overnight with the high trajectory. Just give it time to get used to the meter.

With the Raps you just need to adjust for a tad more roll. They are certainly better clubs with Callaway balls because of the increased ball flight,Ive have always said if you want a stress free round go with raps,They are still and will always be a comfortable iron to play, the only downside for me is that there is too big a gap between 3 iron and 3 wood.( 200-240) so i have to drop 3 wood when i play Raps and go with 225 3h club,I play G10s now because of longer approaches with Legend tees,But if green speed is VF or F they wont be far behind G10s for performance,As far as accuracy goes Gladstonescrewer is a top CTTH Player who still plays Raps so they are good enough,I have had several sub 60 rounds with them.So if you are prepared to play a top ball with them like Callaways then they wont disappoint,Thats my opinion,And dont forget Jim, In the Ryder Cup i won 4 from 5 matches with them on tourney greens with GI2SD ball against players who had G10s or I15s,I will always be proud of that fact, even though 4 matches were doubles i still held my own in that company with them clubs,

My intention is to manfully play on with the G10's for a couple of weeks and then see how I'm getting on.

If i'm honest when i played the K15's it never bothered me if i didn't hit the ding, as i knew it wouldn't be too far away, it seems now with the G10's i'm forced to try and play the game properly (if that makes sense) i really have to try and get the ding.

Anyway i've purchased some G13-S balls and along with the callaways they slow the meter down the most so we shall see.

I might go for a round or 2 with the 2 10c balls i have remaining, that should be fun :)

As well you should be, dear heart. I will vouch because that's what made it most impressive for me as I watched- I was thinking "she's doing it with those irons!!" And no Callies either!!  LOL

Enjoy your new game, GM.   :-)

I had to practice hard with them for 2 weeks to really feel the roll wind behind on certain key holes  And it wasnt easy,i drove Lisa03 mad on several practice sessions because i knew it wasnt going to be good enough at that level,So in a strange way the Raps were responsible for maybe improving my understanding of how a ball releases,Thanks for the Kind words Jim, they sure were intense moments weren't they,:)

these guys know alot more than i do but ill add one thing. the one thing i had to do when i first got my g10's was not using backspin for a little while till i got use to the clubs. you might already know this but...if you use backspin and miss the ding, your shot suffers more than if you dont use backspin. so eventually i was able to start using backspin again once i got use to the clubs. hope this helps and happy golfing.
