Group 2
Precept (Carolina Sandhills) vs. Bombur (Golf Club Arona)
It would have been different if Bombur didn't have an ice cold putter; he outplayed me tee to green, but I was hot putter.
1.
My birdie was conceded to take a 1up lead
2.
I missed the green left while Bombur hit it to 9
feet, but he missed a makeable birdie putt and we halved after I got up and
down.
3.
We both came up a half-club short on our
approaches; I canned by birdie from 19 and so did Bombur to halve.
4.
I hit the 1st cut of rough and knocked
it on; Bombur knocked it close. I lagged
it close, while Bombur’s birdie effort missed on the low side. Halved with pars.
5.
We both made 5-footers for birdie to halve.
6.
Front pin location, downwind, I hit my 2nd
to 13-feet while Bombur hit it to 11. I
missed my eagle putt on the low side while Bombur’s lipped out hard. Birdies halve again
7.
Pin on the right side, I hit my tee shot to 9
feet right of the hole, while Bombur hit it to 6. My awkward double breaker burned the edge,
then Bombur’s sat on the edge. Pars
halve.
8.
Pin on the left side, I sank a 6.3 foot curler for
birdie to halve his conceded bird.
9.
Pin back right, we both laid up a little further
back than usual (139 and 133). He hit to
9 feet; I hit to 18. We both lost it
left; pars halved
10. Pin
back left, I hit it 15 short, but right at the flag. He hit it pin-high on the left side of the
green. He missed 18 footer on the high
side while I drained my straight uphill 15 footer to go 2up.
11.
Pin back right and into the wind, we both had
235. His 2nd shot came back
down the slope while mine stay up top.
From 34 feet, he lagged it close; I left it just short from 19. Pars
halved.
12.
Pin back left and into the wind, he had 173 and
I had 171 left. I hit it poorly, but
almost sank my 19 foot slice putt. His
13 footer never had a chance. Pars halved again.
13.
Pin left side, I hit it to 4 feet, only to be
outdone. I sank my birdie and conceded
his. Pars halved.
14.
Pin up front and downwind, I laid back to 141,
while Bombur missed the fairway. I hit
it 22 feet behind the hole while Bombur hit it 20 feet left of the hole. It was curly, so I lagged it close; Bombur’s
20 footer came up a touch short. Pars halved.
15.
Pin back and into the wind, I had 210 left and
he had 208. I hit 3-iron to 15 feet, while his came to rest 21 feet left of the
flag. He drained his 21 foot slicer, but
I calmly sank my downhiller to halve with birdies.
16.
Pin up front and into the wind, we both laid it up. He left himself 61 while I had 48. His caught the false front and stayed on the
fringe. I hit it to 3 feet behind the
hole. He chipped it close, but it wouldn’t
go down. I sank my birdie.
