    YOWZA!

I remember arguing with my ex wife that he was a genius, a poet and needed to be rewarded as suich.

    BOOM!

Here's a video that should get you moving

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Abbu5hcH0kk

And here's something to make ya stand up:

    "Forever Young"

May God bless and keep you always

May your wishes all come true
May you always do for others
And let others do for you
May you build a ladder to the stars
    And climb on every rung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young.

May you grow up to be righteous
May you grow up to be true
May you always know the truth
And see the lights surrounding you
    May you always be courageous
    Stand upright and be strong
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young.

May your hands always be busy
May your feet always be swift
May you have a strong foundation
When the winds of changes shift
May your heart always be joyful
And may your song always be sung
    May you stay forever young
    Forever young, forever young
    May you stay forever young.

While not being a big fan of Dylans music* I can appreciate the mans talent and I think this award is fully deserved. His music and lyrics have worldwide cultural significance and  will be appreciated by many generations yet to come.

    * There are some tunes that I absolutely love but in the main he's just not my 'thing'.

The 1st ever music video? -

    Best video ever Paul :-)

I've always said there are 2 types of people:

Those who love Dylan and those who hate him.

The man is just such a brilliant poet though!

That makes me the exception that proves the rule then!

Nope add me to that category.

I feel the same way about Dylan as Paul (but hey we seem to have very  musical tastes) and he had some great tunes and powerful lyrics. He has also produced some shite.

But a Nobel prize for literature? Not sold on that and is sort of denigrating to many writers out there. Yes there is a crossover in lyrics and literature, but there is a distinct difference IMO.

There is certainly a difference between successful songwriters; Lennon, McCartney, Richards, Anka, Bon Jovi, etc...and musical poets such as Dylan, Cohen, Downie. It may be a coincidence, but poets can rarely sing very well...Downie has a decent voice though.

Interestingly, Poet Laureates never seem to get recognized by the Nobel committee.

For the record, the poet laureate for the USA is Juan Felipe Herrera. For Canada, it's George Elliot Clarke and for the UK, it's Carol Ann Duffy.

Peter: for South Africa, it's Keorapetse William Kgositsile.

    Household names all...oi vey

(I knew the Canuck...the others I had to google)

I was reading an article today from one of the better UK newspapers, in it the arty feature writer was saying that awarding him the Lit. Nobel was reducing  his canon of work to being "merely his words".

His and your points of view are from different ends of the telescope but they lead me to the same question; why isn't there a Nobel prize for music?

I would ask Alfred but he's dead.
