Hey everyone, new to the forum, want to say I really like the game but I feel as though I'm not fully understanding some things. First, I don't understand how the calculations of the distances work? I'm at the Tour Pro level with upgraded clubs (R-1 driver R11 irons and Cleveland wedges) using them was and still is enjoyable, however, when I was using the WGT starter balls it seems like everything is off, my distances are so badly skewed I don't even know how to understand how to measure my distances any more? The latest example, and what brought me to the forum, was I'm playing the Congressional 6th hole, on the fairway after my second shot leaves me 39 yds out, so I have my Cleveland CG16 wedge out, max distance of 70yds. So I judge my distance to the halfway mark on the meter and hit it perfectly figuring it will fly 35 yds and roll the rest of the way, because that's what it used to do when I was using the upgraded balls. Nope, it chilly dips to only 25yds and rolls another 3 leaving me well short for the birdie and have to two putt for par. It seems to me that since I am no longer using the upgraded balls, it's anyone's guess as to how the distance is to be judged. How does this work? Does the ball make it that much of a difference that you can no longer judge your clubs distances by the meters given and that it's just a get up and guess? Or is it that in order to judge the distances and shots properly I have to pay for upgraded balls every single time, is this really just a pay and play kind of game if you want the true experience?

Thanks guys, like I said, I really like the game and will continue to play just not liking the inconsistency with the starter balls.

The balls and clubs you are using make a huge difference in accuracy and how the game plays. I suggest you pick one ball and just stick with that so you learn it. You do not want to pay for the higher priced balls and I get that but there are a couple of other options that while they are not free they are close to it at just 10 credits per sleeve. I like the WGT BES for a cheap one, plays far better than the starter ball for not much at all or go with the BXD distance ball.  Obviously  the more a ball costs the better it will perform if you learn it.

A remark to your central misunderstanding:

All wedges have a non-linear power-to-distance ratio which means that 50% power on the meter is always less in distance.

Furthermore, you have low level wedges (L7) which unfortunately do not show top performance. Therefore, they may operate irregular below a certain percentage.

For precision shots, you'd have to invest some time for a distance table over power.

The ball has an influence, too, but not so much to the distance but to other characteristics. Most important: meter speed and spin. For Starter balls, the former is high and the latter is low.

You might want to try some custom balls, e.g. the B-ES or the Tour-SD.

You are trying to hit a 35 yard shot with a 70 yard club , (50% power)  I never hit a club at 50%    You might try a punch shot at that distance  ..If you had  50 yard wedge or a 60 yard wedge it would be easier ,   Try the punch , pitch or flop  at short distance , Practice makes perfect ...  Good luck ..

Starter balls suck , don't use them . They will not help your game .

haha, starter balls do suck bad, I've learned that very quickly, just a shame they make so much of a difference, my last shot was with my 3 iron (205 yds max distance) had a fairway shot to the hole 199 yds with a 6mph wind straight into my face slightly uphill, maxed the swing out and pinged it, shot went 164yds into the bunker. I just laughed. Thanks for the advice, appreciate it.

Whether U know it or not U just learned a valuable lesson! If U haven't mapped your clubs with both the starter ball (ROCK) and your ball of choice, U may find yourself playing a match and unable to purchase the ball of your choice. How far does the Rock travel with your 4 Iron? 3 Iron ? or any other club on your bag? It's nice to know in a pinch. Think about it! Your choice, your game. Mapping and practice are your best friends

I may be deviating from the OP's point here, but I can't fail to notice that he is a member of the Pinhunters 2 CC.

I understood that Gary started this new CC to make it easier for new players or not so new players to improve their game. From that I would assume that he would have made available access to his extremely good website where certainly there are answers to this OP's questions.

So surely his first port of call should have been his CC forum to find an answer to this query Now I am not saying that this is the wrong forum to ask, far from it, but surely the best place in this case would have been the CC forum. But maybe the OP has a problem finding the CC forum, this is not unusual in relatively new CC members.

OK, said my piece, but I was just wondering why the OP was here in the first place in this instance

He joined Gary's CC the same day he posted this thread.

He probably followed the link Gary put in the 2nd post in the thread and ended up contacting him and joining.

    Elementary my dear Fencer.

    Sherlock.
