  A game of golf is 18 holes. More WGT players should play 18 hole games when they opt to play stroke play.

  Why do you think most play 9 hole games?

  Quicker to play 9 holes, faster to saturation, and more likely to lower the scoring average more quickly. Those are just some thoughts off the top of my head.

  Add #4, smaller chance of DQ due to disconnects.

  Also quicker to exit a game if u get an insufferable bore as a partner.

  And, as an aside. when I used to play IRL, which I haven't been able to do in years, I never played 18. I always played 9.

  No advantage for playing 18.    18 holes = 1 RR    9 holes = 1 RR

  Did you miss the official rules changes of the last 10+ years?

  A "stipulated round" by the rules of golf is 18 holes or less - the number may be 1 to 18 obviously, disregarding handicapping limitations.

  Furthermore, there is the Play 9 initiative of the USGA and similar activities by other unions like the German DGV. My first handicap improvement came in a 9 hole tournament, 2005.

  The advantages of 9 holes are many in WGTland:

  - shorter game time,

  - more chances to advance in average and tier.

  - better chances to advance in average and tier,

  - reasonable game time in MPs,

  - more pleasure by more variety of courses in the same time,

  amongst others.

  So, why should WGT players follow your personal opinion and your false presupposition?

  I think he was just asking a question out of curiosity.
  
  Regardless, his main point is valid: the game of golf is set up as 18 holes, unless otherwise authorized. This is actually a nice example of how the exception proves the rule.

  Playing WGT solo then 18 holes is no problem. 

  Playing WGT vs. other players...you're lucky to get 9 holes in.

  The biggest factor is that 9-holes of regular stroke play = 1 Ranked Round (So why kill yourself?)
