    alosso:
I see it as a sad fact that there aren't too many functional wedge sets, even less if a budget must be observed. New players must steer around the pits carefully.

As this is OP's final wedge set I'd consider using a split set. 60yd Max with 75Max/77ATV and 98yd ATV final wedge. Other option might be to try the 85 yd Ping and 105yd ATV with 60 Max. This might be more useful if you do decide to go with a 120 yd PW iron set later on.

The final set should comprise the top Cleve or ATV wedges!

I agree that brands may be split - many have done it. I follow Bollox who - for the longest time - had three different types in his bag. Like him (then) my short wedge is the old Z Satin (=L39 ATV).

No idea what's going on with this site but it's losing all my replies!!!!! Thank you everyone, think I might mix and match as I like the ATV 64 degree. Robbo, did you mean the 60 degree (75 yards) and 56 (90 yards) Max Spin wedges? So all 3 wedges would be 50, 75 and 90 yards?

I meant the ATV 54 degree wedge & the 60 degree & 64 degree Max Spin wedges (98, 75, 60 yards).  But if you like the ATV 64, then perhaps the ATV's are the way to go.  You may find yourself replacing them sooner as you level up and desire more spin though.  Good luck.

Thanks Robbo8. I went with your advice after trying out some. They should last for some time now. Thanks to everyone else as well for all their input it's been very helpful and without it i'd have bought any old rubbish :)

Next will be a putter (Daytona Lv 55 or Ghost lv 66) not as urgent because I quite like the cheaper Ping Anser 2.

If I could pick all your brains one last time, and budget really is going out of the window lol, but I really want a decent 3 wood, I do use my starter 3 wood quite a bit and want something better than I can shape and possibly stop without it taking off??

    Thanks everyone.

I would wait until the Odyssey Versa (Level 70+) putter. I've tried out a couple of other putters and nothing comes close. Maybe the higher level putters (96 and above) are better, but I haven't seen anything below that is better (IMO).

I completely agree with Robert. Tried many putters, but have stayed with the l70 Versa a long time now. Though going to try the l96 when I level up one.

Excellent have made a note for when I reach that level. Any advice on a decent 3 wood?

When I was at or about your level, I had the R15 (Level 41) 3-wood. It was a great club. But the Nike Vapor Fly clubs weren't available then. I think the Vapor Fly clubs in general are great clubs. So, I would think think their Level 46 three-wood would be an excellent club. And it's not too pricey. It would serve you well for a long time.

The G25 3w (L58) may be a good choice as well.  Its noticeably less forgiving than the L46 Vapor (numerically at least) but it specs out identically otherwise at a little more than half the price.

As for putters, if you put off-ding, the Daytona really can't be beat. But, again, putter performance is hugely subjective so try as many as you can before choosing.
