CC tourney, back nine at Oakmont (which I rarely play)...playing low winds, and VF greens and I'm 6 under going into 18.

Tee shot off to the left fairway bunker...30/40 lie...

No issue...full punch 4 iron dinged...ball flies up and  heading left, back into the trap next to me..lol

OKay, punch out to the fairway, then onto the green and two putt for a double...GRRRRRR...

don'tt care if it was low winds and VF greens....I soooooo wanted to break 30 on a 9 at Oakmont...lol...Oh well...pretty sure the 31 was my best anyways.

4i out of a bunker at Oakmont!!!!  You must be joking!  Best you can hope for is something like a 9i or PW which will go about 60yds.  You then have have to get close to the pin and try make par that way, but more often than not you just take your medicine for hitting into the bunker.

If there is a better way then I don't know what it is, maybe someone will have a better suggestion.

If you try to get out of an Oakmont bunker with anything higher than what the caddie suggests you're in trouble. That's the one time I truly trust the caddie to offer the highest club that will work.

I know, I know, but it was one of those "hope for" shots, if I could have advanced the ball 100 yards or so (wishful thinking) I may have been able to stick a wedge or 9 iron close enough for an easy par putt, but just getting out to the fairway leaves 200 yards or so, and that's tough to get close to the pin from that distance on 18.

Anyway, not really a gripe, heck, still the best 9 I had at Oakmont :)
