Finally approaching level 59th which means I'll be able to get the G10 Master irons, but since I'm reluctant to pay for the GI or Callaway balls, was wondering if the meter speeds will ruin my playing experience.  Wanted to check with the community to get some feedback for those using starter balls with the G10s.  Is this a combination doomed to fail?  Should I go with the V2s instead, which have slow meters but are not as accurate or have the higher shot trajectory?

Either way I'm set on getting the R9s over G10 drivers as the additional yardage will probably outweigh precision given the width of fairways.

    Appreciate your suggestions and advice!

If you can ding with the wedges you already have, the G10's will be no big deal with starter balls... except for the fact that now you would have one meter speed to deal with...skip the Raptures ( even though I used them for a long time).

Driver-wise ... opt for the G10.  I started with the R9 ( 275 yrd) for the same reason ... it was a little longer. The G10 will put you in the fairway much more often.. it did for me, anyway. Both drivers have the same meter speed, pretty much the same carry distance, but I always thought that the G10 was less wild on little mishits.

I use the G10's with Tour SD balls quite a bit and while they're easier with Callaways, they're still manageable at full speed.

I have the R9 and get on great with it. I wanted to rent both but tried the R9 first and was so impressed I bought the company. It really does shave as close as a blade, or your money back.

Oops, I turned into Victor Kiam for a minute there.  It's so annoying when that happens, especially on a bus or flight. I tried to buy Lufthansa from a stewardess the other week.

Anyway, I'd do what I didn't regarding drivers; rent both and see which you prefer. What's right for me isn't necessarily right for you.

You can get balls for 44 credits that slow the meter a bit, might be a compromise.

Or you can get balls for 43 credits that give you a lot of spin and some extra distance; if you can handle the fast meter get the Tour-S balls.

When I got the G10's, I got the G10 driver along with them.  The meter speed was problematical at first but as I used them the meter speed became a non issue.  I am still missing dings, but the forgiving nature of the G10's both irons and driver make it an excellent choice for the 60's and 70's levels until you reach the 80's and can get the Big Cannon.

Don't know about the balls.  I'm addicted to the Callaway z balls.

I got the G10's and paired with a Callaway s ball the meter is very managable. I have practiced with the Freebies and have a terrible time dinging anything. The tour SD's seem to help slow the meter. Buy the G10's and invest some credits into a sleeve of balls and see what works for you.

I use the G10's with starter, BES and Tour SD balls, all have the fast speed.  I tried some GI balls once, and my "dinging" was actually worse (too slow I guess for me to get used to it).

Lots of great comments - thank you all for sharing.

My ding rate is pretty low and while I do get lucky sometime with the Satin 64W I can only assume misses will punish me a lot more as the distance increases.  Having a slow computer with a twitchy meter doesn't help either  :)

For the longest time I was thinking about getting the Raptures because of the slower meter speeds, but am just so enticed by the promise of high arching dead on target shots.  That plus the recognition from reading all the posts out there of the importance of having a consistent meter across the clubs in the bad.  Given that I've been spending way too much time on WGT the last 2 months maybe getting the G10s can prove the ultimate make or break.
