I've only been playing this game a few weeks, so I'm still learning my way around.  Presently sitting at L48, if that matters.

Thus far, I have upgraded my woods and wedges; in each case I've upgraded to clubs that I expect to utilize for the foreseeable future.  The woods have a meter speed of 3.5 and the wedges have a meter speed of 3.0.

The 3.0 on the wedges feels a tad "quick", but I manage.  The 3.5 on the woods feels good - I hit those clubs well, generally.

I am still using the starter irons (meter speed 4.5) but will be looking to upgrade those soon.

The strong consensus seems to be that the L59 G25 iron set is the way to go.  They have a 4.0 meter speed.

My question, for the much more experienced players: would you advise that I get the G25 irons, or a comparable (say, L45-L60) set of something else, with a 3.5 meter speed, which would "fit in" with the rest of my lineup a little better?

I was kinda thinking that my current 4.5 meter irons might be contributing to the 3.0 meter wedges feeling quick, and that perhaps I'd hit the wedges better if the iron set was at 3.5 - or am I overthinking this?

Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.

There are those who swear by consistent meter speeds, and there are those who say it's meaningless. I fall somewhere in between.

I try to keep them somewhat close, but not at the expense of performance. My wedges and putter are my slowest clubs, my irons the quickest, and my woods are right in the middle.

The best advice I can give is to practice enough so that the meter becomes second nature. I don't have to think about my irons having a faster meter; I just know it and have adapted.

That's assuming you're pretty consistent with the meter speed of the ball you're using, which is a whole 'nother topic.

Methinks that the high trajectory of the G25s is more important than a meter match. You can adapt to the latter but not compensate the former.

    L59s all day every day.

The high trajectory will be useful for a long time.  Well trod path.

This, I think, is a seemingly simple - but very important - point.  Unlike other golf games I've played, this one doesn't allow you to adjust much for trajectory (other than using the "punch" option, which is pretty limited in terms of manipulating trajectory).

I've also noticed since I posted this (from looking at a fantastic equipment table SS that I stumbled upon in a different thread), that there are very few iron sets with a 3.5 meter anyway - basically I'd only have two choices if I insisted on the 3.5 meter: the L32 R11 and the L65 F6.  Neither seems to present nearly the attributes per "price" paid as does the G25 at L59.

The more I dig, the clearer the choice appears to be.

Does anyone know how many XP it will take to get from my current L48 to L59?

Flapstick, to get back to your question. The majority of the better players will tell you that meter speed being close to the same is crucial. The only club I that i use that the speed is much different is the putter. I wont the slowest putter i can get. Ask Mags his opinon on meter speed.

If I went with the L59 G25 irons, I'd have the following:

    Woods: 3.5

    Irons: 4.0

    Wedges: 3.0

In your opinion, is that too much variability?

I think it depends on how you use the meter.

If you follow the line all the way to the ding line and then try to hit it then I don't think it's that important to match the meter speed with all your clubs.

If however, you look for the moving meter line to reach one of the fixed lines on the meter and have a mentally preprogrammed delay between that moment and clicking the mouse button then yes, it is vital if you want to hit the ding or at least get very close regularly.

I have a feeling most of us actually do that, whether we're aware of it or not.
