The important part of the unlimited play everyone so far has seemed to miss . Although the event may be unlimited play the setup always changes . You arent playing each round under the same identical conditions . Other than the tees and green speeds the winds will have a different pattern of directions . This alone will change the course of the game and make scoring either easier or harder depending on the skills of the player .

Also take into consideration the VEM / deviation of the game and every round is a new challenge . So even though it may seem to give a player an unfair advantage , there is no advantage for anyone . The skill of the player is always being tested and there are no guarantees that you will score better each time you replay the round .

Even though I scored a 58 in the Open qualifier it only happened once and the other attempts only resulted in low to mid 60 rounds . I missed the cut by 2 strokes which was my best . So you see there are no guarantees and nothing carved in stone that says playing an event more than once will result in a bonafide win for anyone .

I decide to play a ranked round on Bethpage. I go out and play nine holes for the enjoyment,;the only cost is that  of the ball(s) i use.  No potential return of that cost.

I decide to play an unlimited tournament on Bethpage. I face the same cost of my previous round that I did just for fun, but now I have the potential of winning some credits. What is not to like about unlimited tournament?

I play WGT for fun and entertainment. If the game were only about winning or pay to play, I would not be here.

I don't believe that the original complaint here, is about unlimited play, it appears to be more about flusteration.   Any and all of us that have reached legend tier and up, know the grind it takes to lower our averages to tier up.  According to the stats, this person needs to play an unlimited amount of times. If you look at the leaders, you very seldom see that they avg. 16 some feet from the flag on approach, and they don't  have under  an eighty five plus avg.  of hitting greens in regulation. The leaderboard show players that have learned the game, paid their dues, and played many thousands of shots.  Difference is, they learned how to make the shots that count, or when not to make shots that dont, and make course management work for them.  I feel for the poster, as I'm grinding it out too, but have learned to take my bad days in stride, and work harder to make my good days count to my advantage.  There are plenty of days that I want to believe in the conspiracy theory, lol, but in looking back, and analyzing, it' , its just me.

Many, many times I've read the better players say, practice,  practice,  practice,  but I'll take my chances at practicing on ranked rounds, and tourneys, if I score well, great!  If I don't, oh well.

    So true!

On the plus side, you get double base XPs for each round completed. On minus, each "better" round drops your average, bringing you closer to the next tier.

I'm not sure that I understand your concept of a minus side. Why would anyone think that getting better, lowering your avg., and advancing to the next tier, isn't a plus? If you have upgraded your equipment, haven't you exhibited a want to improve?  If you have spent hours playing on here, isn't that a desire to excell in order to win?  I've never heard anyone say " I never want to be the best, I don't want to win"  our human nature, and ego, push us to always be the best we can! Advancement is always a plus!

    Lucky,

One downside to tiering up too soon, is playing from longer tees with lower level equipment and balls.

The downside may be that you advance to the next tier before being good enough to rake in some wins or top positions to reward your skills. That is, instead of excelling, to rise while being average and to disappear in mediocrity.

Unfortunately getting better and advancing to the next tier can go together as passing ships in the night.

Personal aspirations vary as to what it all means.  Red tees or even too much (being honest) Beth F9 low wind CC stuff, even off full length tees, means plenty of badge holders can look very poor in real comps.

Personally I would say to any new Legend to now seek out good advice, heed it and progress to a good standard over all courses.  Done properly you get plenty of those 500 RRs left to compete in WGT wide comps, and really another 200 RRs as a TL before you really hit the cream..............Plenty of champ tier badge holders have never done that and frankly it is obvious, but they do get the badge to fumble with.

The rest of what you said about getting better I obviously fully agree with.

Saying all that I now need to start taking some notes so I don't stuff up par 3s so much:)

Unlimited play are a great way to test how well you are doing, and if some want to play them over and over and over who cares? Plenty of single play on offer......Each to their own as well..........I think the OP just had a bad day
