Having CC tourneys with different tiers participating.
Would like to handicap the lower average players to even the playing field
Anyway of doing this?
We do it this way.
Find each players H/C (handicap) each month by using the USGA system, slightly modified somewhat as follows :
A) We take the best 5 of the last 10 rounds played, excepting Par 3, Par 5, Custom Courses, Red Tees, Un-Even Lies and Starter Clubs. Either 9 or 18 hole, then double the 9 hole scores to get an 18 hole score. Add the Best (lowest) 5 scores and divide by 5. This give you the average.
B) Take that average and multiply it by 0.96. This gives you the H/C average.
C) We use 60 (average required for Tour Legend) as the base. Subtract that from the H/C average and you will get the # of strokes H/C for that player. Round up for .50 and up. Round down for .49 and below.
EXAMPLE:
Joe has qualifying scores of: 72, 68. 33, 31,77, 84, 67,34, 32, 39. Some are 9 hole.
Converted to all 18 hole scores you get this: 72, 68, 66, 62, 77,84, 67,68, 64, 78.
The 5 lowest are: 62, 64, 66, 67, 68 = 327. Divide 327 by 5 = 65.40. Round down to 65.
65-60 = 5. Joe's H/C is 5.
Note this only works on Free (no entry fee) Tournaments. You have to make and post the adjusted scores in your CC forum. WGT tournament results will reflect the SCRATCH scores, and will make payouts in any entry fee tournament based on those.
We also cap minimum and maximum handicaps, based on tier. We find it does level the playing field some.
I hope this helps a bit. If you would like more info, send me a friend request and I will PM you with the tier caps, etc.
Good Luck
