When you lose your ball in a water hazard, the game puts you back to where you hit b4 . You should get to drop from where you went in, am I missing some option here or is this the way the game is designed?

Perhaps its a bug the hosts should deal with, the introduction of lateral hazards....options rather than stroke and distance

To take a specific example:  Kiawah Hole #2, the "creek" that crosses the fairway is not considered a 'water hazard' as the game indicates when you hit your ball into it.  I specifically says "LOST BALL" which according to the rules of golf require a penalty of stroke + distance!  There are other water hazards (#17 same course) where you do actually get a drop at the nearest point of entry... unfortunately that is always on the tee blocks anyways!

ever notice when you hit a great shot then all of a sudden the connection is lost, and it puts you back where the shot was from when you resume, but have you ever hit a ball and it was clearly going to be lost so you quicly end the game before it says lost ball, but when you resume, it always takes your ball...hmmmm....have to say that pisses me off

Kissfanpdx... you are funny.  Are you really that cheap that you'll end a game when your 15 cent ball is headed toward the water?  Even if you're 3 under par at the time???  Give me your address... I'll send you 20 bucks for a lifetime supply of balls.  No, this offer is not good for anyone else on here!

    From the USGA website:

26-1. Relief for Ball in Water Hazard

It is a question of fact whether a ball that has not been found after having been struck toward a water hazard is in the hazard. In order to apply this Rule, it must be known or virtually certain that the ball is in the hazard. In the absence of such knowledge or certainty, the player must proceed under Rule 27-1.

If a ball is in a water hazard or if it is known or virtually certain that a ball that has not been found is in a water hazard (whether the ball lies in water or not), the player may under penalty of one stroke:

    a. Play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5); or

    b. Drop a ball behind the water hazard, keeping the point at which the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard directly between the hole and the spot on which the ball is dropped, with no limit to how far behind the water hazard the ball may be dropped; or

    c. As additional options available only if the ball last crossed the margin of a lateral water hazard, drop a ball outside the water hazard within two club-lengths of and not nearer the hole than (i) the point where the original ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard or (ii) a point on the opposite margin of the water hazard equidistant from the hole.

When proceeding under this Rule, the player may lift and clean his ball or substitute a ball.

27-1. Stroke and Distance; Ball Out of Bounds; Ball Not Found Within Five Minutes

     a. Proceeding under Stroke and Distance

At any time, a player may, under penalty of one stroke, play a ball as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5), i.e., proceed under penalty of stroke and distance.

Except as otherwise provided in the Rules, if a player makes a stroke at a ball from the spot at which the original ball was last played, he is deemed to have proceeded under penalty of stroke and distance.

     b. Ball Out of Bounds

If a ball is out of bounds, the player must play a ball, under penalty of one stroke, as nearly as possible at the spot from which the original ball was last played (see Rule 20-5).

Boffman, thats for the rules, but the 12 at Kiawah has red pegs on the right identifying a lateral water hazard.... but the game decision is lost ball rather that point of entry relief.

My problem is the game doesn't give you a choice. Lateral water hazards give you the option of determining to location of relief, from either side of the lateral hazard.
