No, unfortunately it's a bug in the friends system. It only shows 10 for everyone right now. There's a also a bug where if you look at the profile of someone who you know is your friend, but isn't in your list. Their profile will show you the 'Add a Friend' option even though they are already a friend.
I know it's on their to-do list, but it's probably not high-priority right now.
The only workaround now is to go into your profile and click on each friend individually to see their online status. Or come to IRC.
