Our family rents a hall with a kitchen, and everyone in the family is invited to it...the people we seldom see, the ones we see to much, and even the ones nobody likes LOL

Huge feed, with plenty of left overs to take home for everyone! It is by far the best family day of the year, Christmas doesn't even come close to it!

It is great to see how the youngsters have grown, and hear the stories, good or bad, about the family!

However this is why it is such a great day for us...

Several years ago an elderly man, who just lost his wife and was all alone, wandered in the Hall, thinking it was a  meal for the elderly sponsored by the community...

After a brief look around the room he realized it was private and headed for the door, when my sister in law stopped him and asked him if something was wrong....After he explained his mistake, she said "OK, but that isn't any reason to leave until you have had a good meal, your more than welcome here family or not".

Long story short, we also do this on Christmas(smaller scale), and for the next 3 years this man showed up to everyone of these as if he was family, which he honestly was to us since the 1st day...

A few years ago he didn't show, it was the main topic of the dinner for we feared the worst, and after weeks of reaching out we found out he had in fact passed away!

Now every family suffers losses, and it hurts, but this mans passing really hurt us all because we were glad to be there for him, but he will never know how much his presence there, made us feel good about ourselves, because that is what Thanksgiving is all about! We miss him to this day!

On the down side of it, in 2014 my wife who had been ill for 6 yrs. went into a coma on Thanksgiving night, and passed 2 weeks later....2015 the best dog I ever had, or will ever have, was ill and had to be put to sleep on Thanksgiving eve and I still miss him!

2016 I was fully prepared and dead set on going to the local hospitals emergency room after the meal and sitting there, "just in case"! But my kids wouldn't allow it...

2017 one of my sister in laws passed last weekend, however I will still have a First Aid kit, heart pills, oxygen, and paddles, close at hand, and will not drive over 20mph tomorrow, you know, just in case! LOL

    Happy Thanksgiving to all!

Thanks for that announcement Champ --- I've alerted my club in case they need to get some money laundered before Friday. :)

The best part of Thanksgiving is that it's not commercial - just sharing a meal and time together, although Black Friday has crept into Wednesday/Thursday in far too many places. I feel badly for those for whom this means their job keeps them away from that "meal and time together."

The happiest to all, I have been cooking all day preparing for tomorrow. Been my routine for over 45 years now. Tonight I start my holiday Jerky.

Happy Thanksgiving to all the WGT community and to my American friends.

Being from Aussie, I was never exposed to this growing up, and my first taste of thanksgiving was when I was living in London. I had met someone who became a lifelong friend, she was from SC and had moved to London.

She went to the local pub, and asked the chef to put on a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings for all her new friends in the absence of family.

A stunning meal....until the pumpkin pie was rolled out. My first taste of pumpkin pie was not good....the chef had no recipes and was a foreign concept - so it turned out to be a savory dish with a little sugar to sweeten it up......vile lol

The event was repeated the next year......and the chef had got a real recipe.......the entire meal was fantastic.

The third year we went to SC and had a real family thanksgiving (followed by golf a few days later including Kiawah Ocean Course).

The lack of commercialism, being with "family" (which I felt part of) where members came from far and wide......was a really fantastic experience.

Then to read Dan's story of accepting the lonely man.....this personified my experience.

So Happy Thanksgiving again to all.....and to Dan as well.......have fun, life is too short to dwell on the "what ifs" - just do not drink and drive.

Bet wishes to the WGT community and their families. A special thanks to 7 of the best guys i ever met, here in this game. Who knew that an old fart like me, who has no real friends in life, could find common ground then an ever lasting friendship with guys i met in a game. Now if i don't hear from them daily i get worried, cause we are of that age where death is a real possibility. So Cheers to them and all the other "friends" i have met in this game. Happy thanksgiving to all, may you and your families be happy and healthy for many years to come. Ans d since we are having dinner late, i will be playing...hope to see you on.

Happy Thanksgiving to all!  Have a safe and happy holiday.

Luckily for me, Mrs. Kavvz is American and so yes we too will be eating and celebrating at least in the Kavvz household up here in the great white north eh!  Always look forward to the food!

    Many cheers to all!

A Happy Thanksgiving to all in the WGT community. May everyone enjoy their family and friends, and appreciate the spirit of the day. (Of course, by the time this gets through moderation it'll probably be Christmas, but what the heck.;))
