I know that probably sounds like an odd question, but it recently occurred to me that I'm not consistent with my approach when trying to ding my shots. Sometimes I follow the meter, sometimes I focus on the ding itself, sometimes I focus before the ding. It was never really an issue for me as my irons usually couldn't get me into too much trouble and my R11 10.5 was practically cheating. However, now that the Master tier has forced me to upgrade to the R9, I keep getting myself into trouble off the tee. A moderate mishit that simply made me hit a longer iron now runs me into a tree 50 yards from the box. I'm getting better with practice, but I'm still inconsistent.

So the short version is: what do you look at when the meter is moving in order to be most consistent with your ding?

There's nothing odd in this at all, Josh. This subject has come up a couple of times in the past and you always get good perspectives from the responses. This was a pretty good discussion.

Meter speeds as close together as you can get them helps, too.

Thank you for that thread. I tried to search the subject but couldn't come up with anything. At the moment, I'm having the best results with staring at the nearest "miss" line to the left of the ding with my R9 driver, staring between the ding and that miss line with my G10 irons and Satin wedges, and following the meter across with my Daytona.

People seem to all have their own way of doing it, so I suppose I'll just keep experimenting to see what works best for me. I'm getting significantly better off the tee, partly because I'm handling the smaller sweet spot better, and partly because I'm working on being less "cute" and giving the R9 more room to work. I had gotten quite used to lining up my R11 five yards to the right of the fairway bunkers and having it land five yards to the right of the fairway bunkers. Not so much with the R9 haha.

Yes, as YJ said.....that topic is a really good read and when I am in a slump I go back to it for ideas.

I find that staring at the ding line but as if I was looking through it  and catch the meter coming into the hit zone my reaction time is close to the ding alot

I tend to ding more when I follow the meter then halfway I skip forward to the ding line and click as it goes past.

As the saying goes "you have to dance with who you brung". At times, I can hit the line almost everytime, but my common is slightly late,so I will focus on a little early. Dancing is difficult.

Dont know if im the only person who does this but when im playing i dont aim for the ding.Depending on the wind i either hit left or right of the ding its the same with putting. Over time ive learned 2 judge how far i want to hit either left or right of the ding by no means do they all go in but im always close.Well untill yesterday when i decided to change my spider for a new putter now i have to learn all over again LOL not complaining as its another challenge on this great game.so was just wondering does anyone else do this ? thanks for reading. SMOKE !

That is what i do when I have trouble dinging it. Can't remember what those things are called...... the pictures you stare at and all of a sudden a total different picture pops up at you... watch the meter start, then stare through the ding line, 98% it works

    Cheers

As it is highly recommend by the upper tier players to take notes, here are my results after 3 exhausting months of doing so. I can hit the ding 75% of the time with beer. I hit it 50% of the time with Jack Daniels. After 10-12 beers I switch to the Jack. This has averaged out to a dinged shot  62.5% of the time. Somehow I forget to check wind speed and what club I'm hitting or even what hole I'm playing but that's my next mission. I play MAD HAND GOLF. Make a drink, have a new drink,  grip, observe lost focus. Maybe not for everyone but sure is a hoot for me.

Well it's true. My problem is I'm a workaholic...mention work to me and I've got to get a drink.
