How in the name of cripes do I figure this putting s**t out? I'm not a dumb person and I've become very good at some of the hardest online games, but I just cant get the hang of putting!

I'm shooting for birdies on 80% of my rounds, and its absolutely killing my scores. Someone PLEASE tell me the secret before I pull my hair out.

You'll never get anywhere with the Beginner putter. Period.

I think what YJ means is that the beginner putter is too inconsistent to rely on.  An upgraded putter will roll truer, and result in more putts dropping.

Seveking, on the other hand, has a slightly different opinion.  He's still using a starter putter as a legend.

My opinion?  If the putter you have isn't working for you...an upgrade is probably a good idea. This is after you read the putting tips over there, of course-------------->

Tx, Jerm, exactly what I was implying. Seveking uses the Starter so you would think the OP would at least switch to that.

@Nicole-Blunt is a better word to use.  ;-)

    What's your problem?

    Distance control?

Reading the green, figuring out break?

With regard to my "bit harsh no?", statement.

Now , i haven't been here very long, (last october joined) but i do read the forum quite a bit, (some very helpul tips)  especially regarding putting, so my opinion is all it is, my opinion.

Anyway, i have noticed quite a few times were players refer to the starter putter as the beginner putter, as YJ did. (according to the guys bag he uses the starter)

I have tried all the putters, (bar the Ghost) admittedly just for a days rental.

I have posted on these other threads my thought on  them.

    firstly- on thread titled

    Daytona putter (L55) help

I hired this Daytona last week.

The meter stuttered all the time with me. (my other clubs were fine)

If i thought this was just a one off occurence, i would have considered buying it, but receiving no reply from WGT to my emails, i will leave it for now.

On longer putts it certainly seemed more accurate with regard to  distance.

This is where the beginner putter falls down, on putts of say, 60ft plus, it has a mind of its own.

    And on

L72 Redwood Putter, try before you buy

I hired this L72 redwood last week and had the same results as when i hired the daytona, i.e. impossible (for me)  to use.

The speed is fast, but that isn't the problem, (i can cope fine with the driver and irons, even with starter balls) the jumpy, stuttering all the way down, is.

I appreciate that it must work for most, a look at the bags of the better players tells me this.

p.s. I cleared the cache etc etc. and tried it with one dot and two dot feel balls, all to no avail.

When i first started, like most others, i suppose, i moved "up" from the beginner to the starter, but despite persevering, couldn't achieve the same results, simply because i couldn't hit the ding consistently enough.

Now that is another point i have seen made on here, repeatedly, that the starter and beginner have the same meter speed. Regardless of what it says in the specs, the starter is much faster than the beginner.

Now for me, my reflexes aren't the fastest, but  i can miss the fairway and make birdie, i can miss the green and make birdie, if i miss a putt, it's gone forever.

To get back to the OP, i normally take no notice of anyones stats, even my own, but i would suggest that his putting isn't his problem, mainly because his av. dist. to pin is 28ft, (he also seems to have the EZ swing lob wedge in his bag, a big no no )  taking under 2 putts per hole doesn't seem that bad really.

This is something i often see overlooked when players are discussing someones putting stats, e.g. if a player is taking 1.5 putts per hole, he is a better putter than someone taking 1.6, but the first player maybe has an ave. distance to pin of 12 ft, and the second has 20 ft, so is he that much better really?, and should  the second player maybe look first at getting his approaches closer?

Another point of instantly advising players to upgrade their putter is, how much do they spend, (or intend to spend), here, on equipment, and more importantly, balls?

As i said in one of the earlier highlighted posts i made, i tried the higher end putters with the no feel, 1 dot and 2.5 dot feel, and still could not hit the ding often enough. (plenty obviously can, i can't)

All said and done though, these are just my opinions, and it's good to have these discussions.

    Cheers.

I know the feeling guy, I turned master recently and my whole game just fell apart, but I've kept at it. Nothing replaces perserverence, Game is starting to come around ever so slowly. You have to be willing to take 10 steps backward to get one step forward.....

Very good to great putting is mandatory here to shoot low.

Given the state of my game, I cant really give you any Tech advice, but what i can say to you is what I have and am trying. I listen to all well meaning advice, sort through it, and give it a try, but I especially listen to the players who kick serious butt here.....and then I practice their advice. If it helps, I stick with it and see if it will hold up.

Dont give up guy, eventually the light bulb will turn on and thats in anything you do...

There is no magic pill here, just practice practice practice....you dont have to be obsessed here, Im not, but I like playing at a high level and im willing to put the work in...

    Good luck to ya!!
