With regard to my "bit harsh no?", statement.
Now , i haven't been here very long, (last october joined) but i do read the forum quite a bit, (some very helpul tips) especially regarding putting, so my opinion is all it is, my opinion.
Anyway, i have noticed quite a few times were players refer to the starter putter as the beginner putter, as YJ did. (according to the guys bag he uses the starter)
I have tried all the putters, (bar the Ghost) admittedly just for a days rental.
I have posted on these other threads my thought on them.
firstly- on thread titled
Daytona putter (L55) help
I hired this Daytona last week.
The meter stuttered all the time with me. (my other clubs were fine)
If i thought this was just a one off occurence, i would have considered buying it, but receiving no reply from WGT to my emails, i will leave it for now.
On longer putts it certainly seemed more accurate with regard to distance.
This is where the beginner putter falls down, on putts of say, 60ft plus, it has a mind of its own.
And on
L72 Redwood Putter, try before you buy
I hired this L72 redwood last week and had the same results as when i hired the daytona, i.e. impossible (for me) to use.
The speed is fast, but that isn't the problem, (i can cope fine with the driver and irons, even with starter balls) the jumpy, stuttering all the way down, is.
I appreciate that it must work for most, a look at the bags of the better players tells me this.
p.s. I cleared the cache etc etc. and tried it with one dot and two dot feel balls, all to no avail.
When i first started, like most others, i suppose, i moved "up" from the beginner to the starter, but despite persevering, couldn't achieve the same results, simply because i couldn't hit the ding consistently enough.
Now that is another point i have seen made on here, repeatedly, that the starter and beginner have the same meter speed. Regardless of what it says in the specs, the starter is much faster than the beginner.
Now for me, my reflexes aren't the fastest, but i can miss the fairway and make birdie, i can miss the green and make birdie, if i miss a putt, it's gone forever.
To get back to the OP, i normally take no notice of anyones stats, even my own, but i would suggest that his putting isn't his problem, mainly because his av. dist. to pin is 28ft, (he also seems to have the EZ swing lob wedge in his bag, a big no no ) taking under 2 putts per hole doesn't seem that bad really.
This is something i often see overlooked when players are discussing someones putting stats, e.g. if a player is taking 1.5 putts per hole, he is a better putter than someone taking 1.6, but the first player maybe has an ave. distance to pin of 12 ft, and the second has 20 ft, so is he that much better really?, and should the second player maybe look first at getting his approaches closer?
Another point of instantly advising players to upgrade their putter is, how much do they spend, (or intend to spend), here, on equipment, and more importantly, balls?
As i said in one of the earlier highlighted posts i made, i tried the higher end putters with the no feel, 1 dot and 2.5 dot feel, and still could not hit the ding often enough. (plenty obviously can, i can't)
All said and done though, these are just my opinions, and it's good to have these discussions.
Cheers.
