Coming into the day, I had never gone below 30 (or 60), and had shot 30 twice I believe, my two lowest rounds (lowest 18 remains two 62s on BPB, though in relation to par, 63 on Kiawah).

Early in my day, I shot a 29 at SA at tier conditions in a club tourney,my first sub-30 round that saw me go -3 the last two holes after starting -4 the first five.  Just missed an Albatross on the last hole, #9, by a foot, my second near miss of a double eagle in less than two weeks (maybe a week).  Both replays on my profile.  Finally put a dent in my recalcitrant average, closing in on TM.

I shot a 32 at Kiawah on a 9 hole that moved it further, and another in the unlimited 9, then a few games later, dropped a 30 on RSG in a ranked 9 with tourney greens that could have been lower, missing a couple putts I should have had, including missing a birdie for 29 on the last hole by 1'.

Overall, my best day of golf here.  The fact that the thirty on RSG could have been lower makes me wonder if I should really make a run at qualifying for the Open.  Congressional has been frustrating, never getting below 67 for a full 18, and that on my first try.

A few asides... First, a couple of days ago, I played an 18 at SA in a Club Tourney with tourney greens, and shot a64 that was -9 until going +1 on the last 4 holes.  But it was the first time I really ever felt comfortable on the greens, despite a couple of 62s and a 30 or two.  Since that day, my putting has seemed much better, like I got it.  At first I wasn't making more, but I was missing a lot closer, just missing.  Today, I didn't miss many.  From inside 10', I felt nearly automatic for the first time, and from 10'-20', felt like I had a good chance.

The 30 at RSG almost certainly would have been at least a 31 without a fortuitous bounce on a par 3 (I forget the hole #).  I missed the green, but caught the side of a bank at the edge of the green and it kicked sideways onto the green and rolled to 4'.  I made the birdie putt, thank you very much.  The chances of me holing a chip would have been slim, so par was a good bet without lady luck.

At SA, I shot a 29, but missed a 24 by 4'.  After a solid 6' birdie putt on #1, I missed the green on #2, but left my chip 1' short for birdie for the tap in par.  On the par 5 (is that #3 or #4?) I missed a 99' eagle putt by .9' left.  On #6 and #7, I missed birdie putts of 10-12' on each by .4 and .6, respectively.  Both had me shaking my head, thinking "Just not this time".  So I face #8 at -4, but am playing well enough that I know a -6 30 is a real possibility and in the back of my mind "Well, you could always eagle #9"..  Well, I stiff #8 and make the 5' putt for birdie.  I hit my tee shot on #9 with slight topspin hook into a 17 mph slight r to l headwind, caught a good kick on landing, skipped off a couple of mounds, bounced up on the green, caught a good line and pace, and rolled right at the cup.  Thing of beauty which is saved, along with my other near miss double eagle on a par 5 2nd shot at Kiawah.  The Kiawah one had a real shot of going in.  This one rolled off line early but still stopped about 1' from the cup.  If Kiawah was my easiest eagle ever, this was second by 4".

    Great day of golf.
