    Hi guys.

Just started playing today but I am a massive videogolf player, mainly Tiger Woods on the 360.  I have not bought any clubs yet because wanted to check this out, kinda blows that you don't earn a small amount of credits for good round performance.  But the main gripe for me is being a hack to start with which is fine, why am I forced to play in a Tournament with legends that shoot in the 50's?  Am I missing something here?  aren't there low level tournaments for hacks or is everything just opened to everyone?  not much chance of doing well in any tournaments if that's the case.  Can't really take on a legend that's forked out 100's of $ with an entry level hack.

From your profile, you are only playing CTTH (closest to the hole) comps.

There are lots of stroke play tournaments every week that are tier specific.

    Welcome and happy hitting.

In most competitions, you'll play from the tees and under conditions set for your tier...a handicap system of sorts.  But in other competitions, like the Virtual US Open qualifier, it's an OPEN, so everyone plays under the same conditions.  So yes, the more experienced players and those that invest in better virtual equipment and balls will have the advantage.  Keep in mind that there is a huge learning curve here...most of the best players "waste a lot of time", have played for years, play until their fingers bleed, know the game inside and out, use the best equipment and balls and, most certainly, they have the talent.

Yes...check out the Tournaments section on the Main Menu.

So you know, if you want to advance to higher tiers, Closest To The Hole (CTTH) tournaments will not help you do that.  You'll need to play rated stroke rounds or tournaments.  Suggest you spend some time checking out the Getting Started and FAQs sections over there-------->

This is probably going to be the first of many new players asking that question or commenting about how hard it is. You see, WGT and the USGA are really getting it together because the game is accessible through the US Open coverage site, USGA's page.

There will be people that have never heard of WGT getting a chance to play the virtual Open here by way of a link on the USGA site. Not a tiny one either, a big one right in the middle of the page. WGT isn't mentioned but that gets discovered when they click yes. I think it's great. It means WGT is getting somewhere with a very big gun on their side. Last year there wasn't anything.

its just hard because I played the US Open and couldnt even reach the par 4's in 2 shots lol.  I'm no noob when it comes to golf games, been playing them for 20 years lol.  Just trying to figure out how to compete on a level playing field.

    thanks for the tips guys

Imagine you just got on the PGA tour. And you're trying to compete in the US Open? Gonna be tough.

You can play stroke tourneys, the monthly ones, but it's hard even at hack with all the sandbagging and multi accounting going on.

When you can shoot 64, 32ish is when you can start winning some credits playing ready goes.......but I wouldn't expect any substantial winnings until then.

For many reasons the game is designed that way on purpose to discourage sandbagging to a degree. It used to be a lot different before the massive changes last summer. Look at it this way, this will give you the unique skills on this game that will become more valuable down the road. Each game has its own unique quirks and this game is no different. GL and hit-em straight.

The 2009 Open was at BPB and WGT just opened that course for stroke play, much like they did Oakmont last year and CCC this year. I had been here a month and had no clue about anything. Starter clubs in hand I headed out to qualify-should be a piece of cake. Guess again, Batman, the friggin course was so hard I couldn't get close. The best I could do was a 66 and that missed the cut by 3 strokes. That's when I got hooked and I'm sure WGT's banking (no pun intended) on that very same scenario in spades with the 2011 Open. I qualified the next year at Oakmont and those conditions were bigtime harder than this year. This year I watch from the sidelines, I'm just not motivated.  :-(

WGT is accelerating at warp speed now and I love it even though I have no chance to qualify this year. I'm just not a -12 golfer but there's a whole 'nother golf world after the Open and I'm looking forward to it. Way to go, WGT.  :-)

I'm not hating on anyone, I get it all the time on the 360 regarding Tiger Woods, I win around 40% tournaments on hardest level over there, well that was until they screwed the game up with the AI caddy making all your shots.  Thats why I decided to come over here and start up again.  I told a little lie really, I signed up here in 2008 but never really got into it then as it was obviously in it's infancy.  Yesterday was the first time I'd played it since then and was impressed with the improvements.  Not great, but more than enjoyable for something that's free.

I decided to enter the 9 hole hack tournament at St Andrews, was -4 thru 6 holes then bogeyed and parred out rest of the way :( to finish at -3.  Pretty impressive golfing for a hack to hit 29 for 9 holes which was what I was chasing, I just haven't got the feel of how shots behave yet.  I remember a couple times I hit 90% 7 or 8 irons, they had no spin on them and shot right through the greens, wasn't really expecting that.  Not sure what adding loft to the ball does yet in regards to taking distance off the shot.  And of course, putting so damn hard, I hit 7 GIR's but couldn't buy a putt lol think the first few holes I got lucky with the reads.

I want to see if I can get some credits free from somewhere to see if the better clubs really make a massive difference to the game before I purchase them.  I'm unemployed right now and have been for some time, so just making the most of free entertainment at the minute lol.

    Kind regards,

    Tony
