Not sure if anyone is still following this thread, but came across it in a search for coin room threads. So I’m going to add my 2 coins...
Aside from the people who forfeit after hitting their 850 credit ball in the brush and wasting the limited life of the ball, it’s the people who forfeit with just a short putt left to play. I’d guess, since they seem to gain nothing, it must be an ego thing. They didn’t lose, they quit. But aside telling themselves they didn’t lose, to WGT and everyone else, they did.
Whats surprising is how often it happens. Do people think it doesn’t affect their stats or average? Do they think their opponent might not get paid (which for those who are too ignorant to know how to forfeit and timeout, it might happen)? Do people not realize that putts do not shorten the life of a ball?
It is poor sportsmanship however you slice it. And I have no respect for those who do it. There has been one occasion, when coin games were longer than one hole) that I was behind and asked my opponent if he preferred playing out the game or have me forfeit.
But I have pages and pages of people who forfeit on the green before one final putt.
I reached Champion tier a few months ago, which seems to have provoked more forfeits. Yesterday a guy quit without even hitting a tee shot. Little do they know I miss as many 3 ft. putts as a Hack. I’ve also lost to hacks using starter clubs and balls. If you get to the green from going from the rough to a bunker and one putt, you still beat the guy who hits a 350yd drive, a chip shot and two putts.
In any event, their should be some penalty for senseless forfeits (being right before a gimme putt to end the game). The penalty should be increased for doing it by deliberately timing out twice. And increased even more for those who do it frequently. Loss of ball, payment of the full prize amount. Or better yet, paying the amount of their entry bet directly to the winner.
Anything that makes it matter a little more. Remember, coins are almost worthless anyway.
And if WGTis listening, how about letting us buy apparel packs for coins instead of credits? Since apparel packs are almost equally worthless.
