    Hello WGT Community,

I just found out I play this game the wrong way. I aim the ball with my meter and never 'DING' only if it's a straight shot. Should it give me problems in the future? Or is it better to aim with the touch pad and shoot for the 'DING'? Has anyone experience with a wrong play style and experience with less better play that way? Maybe the WGT Staff have info for me?

    Thanks in advantage.

Only time I try & hit the ding.

    Driver

    Putter

    Wedges

All iron shots are controlled miss hits. In saying that if I miss to much then it can go anywhere.

I swear I've read this post before.  Everything from the different font by the OP to the Avatars of the 2 responders.

Even "controlled miss hits" sticks in my head.

    Time for bed.

    Sorry for the interuption.

All I can say about it is I try for ding every shot. Miss hits not only change direction of shot, but reduce distance of shot as well. The more the miss hit the more distance is reduced. Just my observation

I just wanted to clear something up here.

You should always try to hit the center white line on the swing meter.  Hitting the center line represent the player properly executing the swing, also know as a good ball strike.  Now as we all know in golf a good ball striker does not always mean a good result or a good golfer.  But at least you struck the ball cleanly.

Now depending on the type of shot you choose and the clubs you are using there is some variability in the result of a perfect swing, and despite the common lore in the forums there is no "situational" variability. Just like real life some clubs are just more consistent than others when you strike it pure.

Hitting off the center line increases the variability of the ball and club interaction responding to the different club designs.  This is why you see that some clubs are either more or less forgiving as you miss the center line.  A good general rule is that the further away from the center line you hit the more unpredictable your ball flight will be in direction, height and distance.

Since you should always aim for the center line, you need to adjust your aim, power, club selection and swing type to modify the distance, roll and other characteristics.

Purposely hitting off the center line will cause your game to be very unpredictable.

I beg to differ, I intentionally miss the "ding" or "center white line" on a majority of the putts that have exaggerated breaks or lines.  In doing so, I have increased the number of 1 putts by nearly double.

Everyone plays the game different.  Find a method that works for you and stick with it until you perfect it.

No offence to the admin, but this post really isn't good advise.

Since we have ZERO draw/fade options, 'mis' hits are sometimes the best way to actually play a good golf shot.

Missing into a heavy crosswind is often the best play. You may lose some distance, you may see an unusual result, but no matter what, the variability of the mishit is no greater than the unpredictably of dinging that same shot into a 20+ mph crosswind.

It is so much safer on a short breaking putt to over-hit it and miss into the break than to fiddle about finding that perfect line -- only to miss the ding anyways!

If the intention is to really punish mishits, the mechanics have failed to do that in reality.

If there were more options for shot shaping, and up/down/side hill lies, then I could see making the case for always playing for the ding. But in practice we have to mishit sometimes to actually play GOLF.

It looks like there's no specific answer on my question and every individual will find out a playstyle that work for himself. Correct? In that case i will find out what works great for me. Thanks for the good advice golfers.
