That was absolutely a tale of two 9's , Chuck ..... and fun as hell.
The tone was set on the first hole ... I hit to about 8 feet and just missed the putt... Chuck hits to 4", and didn't need to putt. That was kind of how the front 9 went, with Chuck almost holing out again on #6. I was 5DN after 7 and thinking that if I didn't make some kind of move, it was going to be an early nap time for me.
On #8, Chuck finally missed a birdie putt and I squeaked mine in .. 4dn.
#10 .. it was my turn to almost drop it in the hole , leaving about 3 feet. Chuck drains a big 12 footer to take a little wind of of my sails.... still 4dn.
#11 ... Chucks birdie putt just slipped past ... probably the odd camera angles we all know & love @ Kiawah. ... 3dn and I'm starting to fell less embarrassed.
#13 .. My turn again.. almost holed it on the fly ... 3 feet. 2dn.
I got another back on #15 to get with 1, but that was it. 16 laved with birds, 17 with pars.
I pulled my 2nd shot on 18 a little left and off the green.. about 10 yrds. Chuck's went to the fringe, long & right. I knew I need to hole here to have a chance at extras, alas, my pitch came up 4 inches short. Chuck lagged close enough for the easy par and sealed the win.
It was definitely an interesting match. Neither of us played bad at all (maybe 1 or 2 bad shots each) but we had those 2 stretches where the other was just a smidge better.
Good luck in the next rounds, Chuck ... look forward to hooking up again.
